  • Stranded in Halls Creek

I found that I have a broken engine mount.
Limped into Halls Creek for repair however no stock of engine mounts and will need to wait one week for a delivery. Local dealer has never replaced a engine mount before and very reluctant to do so. Tried Kunanurra, no stock. Toyota do not airfreight there. Will have to wait 5 days for a delivery.
I can get towed to Kunanurra under my NRMA cover and the vehicle is under extended warranty.
I am travelling with 2 other couples, so this will really stuff our holiday.

    Any suggestions on a fix?

Jon, personally I would go to Kunanurra, its a safer place IMHO and if you need to wait for parts there is more to do.....No one really flys into Halls Creek that I know of at least there is a real airport at Kunanurra...

Bugger Toyota shipping it, dont let that stop you getting onto Australian Air Express or get the Dealer to shove it into an Aussie Post express Bag....I'd give Darwin Toyota a call to see if they have it in stock, at least it will be quicker....

otherwise call the Toyota Customer Experience center Ph: 1800 869 682 and see if they can help, it cant hurt....tell them your plight and see if they will support you.

    here are some numbers

    Bridge toyota Darwin - (08) 8946 0000
    Winnelle - 1800 252 097
    Pilbara Toyota in karratha - (08) 9185 2700
    katherine Toyota - (08) 8974 0000

You need to fix the mount, dont think there is any other way around it

Try Broome Toyota or broome auto excelllence (Toyota specialist - ask for Stacey, nick or Craig). They usually have the parts and can get delivery to halls creek usually next day.

I second this, it's a bigger town and as mentioned things to do while you are there. If you are travelling with friends jump in with them there are things to do around Kununurra to keep your mind of the broken engine mount while it is sorted. Plenty of nice camp grounds to choose from as well or you could head off to Lake Argyle. Also there are plenty of different brews to try at the pub or head off and get some Ord River Rum.

Good luck getting it sorted, I did some thing similar in Arnhem Land a few years back with my Patrol driving in the bush and a log rolled up and tore the engine mount in half moving the engine into the shroud. Had to limp into Oenpelli with a busted mount and wait a day or two for some one to get a engine mount to me. I ended up replacing it myself using my bottle jack a few basic tools and a crow bar.

I couldn't get a service at Broome Toyota without a 3 week wait so good luck getting them to do any work. The wait times at other dealers up north including Darwin were all at least 2 weeks.

Whilst you're waiting in Kununurra (correct spelling) keep an eye out for Ondaboat (Adam) whose Prado is there getting a new motor.

Have been stranded there in the past as well, good luck, it's a dump! Local toyota dealer was pretty useless as well from what I can recall

Thanks for all your help. Pradopoint is an excellent forum with great advice from the knowledgeable members.
I have organised a tow truck for tomorrow morning to take my car to Kunanarra. we will be travelling in the tow truck as there are no hire cars in Halls Creek.
Have also organised same day delivery of the part from a very helpful parts dealer at Sydney City Toyota.
So, all going well, I will have my car fixed tomorrow afternoon or Saturday morning at the Toyota dealer in Kunanarra.
Will have a Pajero as a hire car while we wait for the repair...

Good to hear your getting out of that sticky situation. Now you can start enjoying your trip again even if your getting around in a Paj!

                          Cheers,

Gidday Jon, I have just completed the CSR north to south and am spending the night in Fitzroy Crossing on my way back to Darwin. We must have crossed paths somewhere on the track. I was towing a camper trailer. Had my engine mounts changed before I left and am glad I did. Had no problems except a flat when I got off the track for an oncoming vehicle. I hope all goes well with your engine mount.

                              Regards
                              Neil
