Mate, having had problems with electric trailer 'braking power' the resolution for my set-up was to use Jacar two core 6mm wire from the battery to the controller, and single from the controller to the trailer, also on the trailer and trailer earth. The fuse they reccommend and supply is 30A, so these units can handle some serious current during braking. So you need wire that can cater for this over the long length and not drop much voltage.

Stay with the thick stuff and you won't loose any power, if you go thin then you may be like me and have to rewire the car and trailer, not much fun.

PS I use the 'Tekonsha P3' controller, it's the top of the line unit and gives you much more ability to play with the settings. This unit is able to adjust for terrain angles as well. It's the bees knees (I think a quality level up from the one you show?) It worked brilliantly on my trip through the Vic High Country, coping and adjusting to various decent angles, highly recommended.

      P3 is $160ish on Ebay.
