  • SpotLights Security Suggestions

Hi all...ive trolled and found little bits here and there on personal approaches to avoiding the dreaded "my Spotties have been pinched!"
Can we please have past and present comments on this topic re quoted in this thread so as to allow all members a singular data base of different methods on left and right field ways of slowing down the cheecky buggers trying to take our muched loved favorite accessory!

The first method ive found was back in 2009 on this forum of tac welding the nut to the thread...but this resulted in the theives kicking in the prado due to being a little irritated! But it worked!

    Over to you

I have the lock nuts that are specific to my X-ray spotties and they have worked well, so far no attempt to steal them. I think not having a well known brand such as LightForce also helps as I believe they would be targeted more as easier to resell.

    Cheers Matt

      Bloody good call!
My hilux mate had his LF's taken from his driveway!
As this is on topic...has anyone one had spotties flogged by a flogger and what brand were the suckers? Seems LF's are more popular than roo lights or narvas etc...

Other than the fact it is an inconvenience, looking at the price of LF's - surely that would be over the standard $500 insurance deductible.

That is running under my insurance as an example....

I have a set of IPF's on the front held by the IPF lock nut meaning you have to have the actual pin indexing system nut to undo them.

Wanted to do an adjustment on the weekend and couldn't remember where I had "safely" stored it. An hour later and after some strong words to myself SWMBO asked what I was doing so explained and she asked "you mean the thing in the bottom of the center consol"? D'oh.

Little bit of weld on the thread. Pain if you ever need to get them off though...

But also avoid light force, the thieving bogans love them.

The Sporting Shooters sticker, Glock sticker and Tikka sticker might discourage some.

Unfortunately this also encourages others to break in and look for weapons.

That's why I always sleep close to my car with a bayonet handy. I'm not allowed to have the guns out of the safe (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).

I think even a 'vehicle under surveillance' sticker on the windscreen might be a deterrent.

I had a set of IPF 900XS's pinch off my old Disco. Stupid me never got around to getting lock nuts. The next lights will be purchased with lock nuts.

You wouldn't get my Hella 4000s off without the allen key. And then you would only have the light and not the mounting base so pretty much useless to anyone. The bases are loc-tited on and haven't budged a millimetre in 4 years.
