  • Should the Reputation System stay?

Plain and Simple, with all the banter going on about the Rep system of late, does it still have a place on Pradopoint?

Unfortunately I would rather see it go, I say unfortunately because one of the members no longer with us that was abusing the system told me directly that his intention was to wreck the system as he didn't like it. I don't like to fold to those sorts of actions but in this case I think the rep system had minimal value even before that.

A good example I saw a number of times was when people received bad rep, then posted and complained about it, and others said they would give them good rep to make up for it........... Which completely defeats the purpose of the system.

As someone who has sat at, or near the top of the rep points system for pretty much it's entire life I must admit I have never really felt comfortable with it, some of the comments both positive and negative have been useful, but I never really thought the balance of points from my posts was right. I seemed to get more points for negative comments, such as "I don't like xyz product" than I did from positive inputs such as helping people and trip reports and other more positive things.

      Cheers Andrew

Then it's even simpler for you Dennis, don't vote!. It's a "yes or no" poll, not a don't care poll. I personally am over the Rep system as I feel it no longer represents what it was meant for, so I thought I would put it out there for members to vote on to see what the consensus is.

Agreed, people are more inclined to complain about, and make a deal of something you said rather than chuck some good points your way say when you:

          -write a good trip report
-find a good cheap mod to share ( washer jets from Hilux)
          -share knowledge on a product

Did you bother to check with admins before you posted a poll on this, and most likely cause another argumentative reputation system thread? ??

If you don't like the rep system then simply don't use it, others will.

The rep system will hopefully settle down from the damage the coffee club created.
Now some of the main offenders are gone ( at their own decision mind you) we will see how things progress..

Obviously didnt read the rules about starting a poll! Please point me in the direction where it is stated as I couldnt find it (must of had a mans look....)

Apologies for not following the rules Piggy....

I wasn't trying to stir up the pot, just an attempt to get to see whether it was worth keeping this feature going if no one wants it.

Shut the poll down if you wish.

So as users do we not get a chance to say how things could be improved?
Not every thing is right and some things sound good but in reality they are not that good.

As the OP is a paid member of this organization does that not count for some flexibility on what a member can/cannot do?

Surly starting a poll is not a crime? The only reason these seem to get blown out of proportion are by some of the comments made.

It looks to me that everything on this forum need a PM permission prior t doing anything? I know this is a privately run site but if all members keep getting criticized for posting a thread like this then soon no one will be here.

                SOL.

there is no rules unless its racist, derogatory, and anything else that will hurt/harm the feelings of others, so anybody can post polls as long as you abide by those rules.

You know what kav, I value your opinion as another PP member but I tend to disagree. The reason I disagree is because people are talking about possible changes/improvements and in general most members are talking about it in an orderly fashion with some discussion and a bit of humour on the side. Improvements or changes can only make the site better and sometimes it takes a bit of discussion to bring this about. So if people were abusing each other threads being closed and members banned then certainly I would say we are going downhill fast. But PP is a valuable source of information and in general a pretty cool online community. But hey if you think otherwise I'm certainly happy to read your thoughts.

Well said playdoh.. It's what keeps me hanging around. Yes we got a little shakey for a while there. The big guns came in and (i believe) rightfully cleaned up a big mess. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect that. It's just the not letting it go and the incessant need to have the last word that gets on my goat. But that, I guess belongs in the Things that ticks you off thread.
