You get an extra 2 doors on the 5 door model.

Mate no one is better than the other. I own a two door SX. I have no problems. It depends on what you want to do with it? If you have specific questions we can answer them. But you can not get a this is better than that answer as they are both capable machines built for different needs.

If you plan on having passengers in the back frequently I wouldn't get the 3 Door, the whole folding of the seat forward mech is archaic, if it had a memory position it wouldn't so bad.
No issues with anything else for me.

i am laughing at the extra door comment and left myself open for that!!! :-) I am leaning toward the 3 door for towing capacity, we do not intend on carrying passengers.

Have done a considerable amount of research thanks "Prado2004" and shall post on my purchase.

              Thanks for the feedback.

Yes the Three door is dead in the reviewed line up. So the FJ is the vehicle of choice if you want a non-five door.

Now I need to know the difference between a SX and ZR I am looking at a ZR which has cruise control and a switch for centre diff lock only, will this be enough to take me 4 wheel driving on the beach, I have heard that SX has a centre diff lock on the rear and the ZR does not. The 3 door is no longer being brought into Australia and therefor it must be a used model.

Not necessarily, my local dealer has a brand new ZR in stock.

                        Wilco,
If your leaning towards the 3 door just for the towing capacity ...don't

In my experience a long wheel base version always tows better than a short wheel base version of the same vehicle.
If you are only towing a box trailer or similar not an issue but if it is a heavier/larger trailer the longer wheel base certainly makes towing easier, less of the tail wagging the dog effect.

Regarding other pros and cons, the 3 door owners will let you know I reckon.

It's still technically a 5 door, and not SWB

                            Not sure about 2014 model.
My 2013 ZR comes with radar cruise control, center diff lock as well as rear. Used the rear diff lock when went out 1st time on the track.
Couldn't find new ZR on carsales anymore. Only three SX left on there.
Unless you want fake leather, gps, sunroof, radar cruise control, multi terrain select/monitor, sensors - go with SX, save $$ and use it to accessorise the truck

For me, this is my first truck and needed all the help I can get - so sensors all round + camera helps a lot. You just need to turn it of when you go to the bush, else beeping like hell.

PS - I wished FJ was SWB. If it were, I'll be at FJCC a lot more than here

Ouch, the ZR brand new is way out of my league, well over the 60k mark, it will be secondhand for sure!!

Thanks for all the feedback and am looking forward to the results on 2500kg vs 3000kg towing capacity.

Placed my deposit on a second hand ZR ...... cant wait!!
