    New to 4WDing

    Firstly let me introduce myself, new to PP and new to Prado ownership. I bought my Prado (120 1KZ-TE) to see this wonderful country we live in and it was the most reliable and toughest 4x4 that I could fit into my slightly undersized garage.

    But I have no experience in 4x4 driving so was thinking it would be a good idea to join a local club, however as I work 2pm - 10pm shift I can not find any which have meetings that I could attend (always held on week day evenings rather than weekends)

    Does anyone have any suggestions for the Adelaide (preferably south) area?

    It's not like there are many places here I can just go practice or play as everywhere has been closed off in the Adelaide surrounding area as far as I can tell

        Apparently there are tracks in Ashbourne - Haines Rd, Sunnydale Rd, Load (or is it Lode) Rd, Dog Trap Rd. Here's a video

          Welcome!
          Good idea to join a club but make sure it's one that runs 4WD driver training or look for a training course elsewhere. Off road driving is great fun but it's very easy to get yourself into serious trouble if you don't know what you're doing.

            I definitely think joining a club is a good idea, as Ursos said, check that they do driver training and book in for a course.

            Don't get too worried about not being able to attend the meetings, it's better if you can, but trips is where the best friendships are made and the experience is gained.

            Sorry cant help with Adelaide clubs.

                Thanks to everyone for the helpful replies, I really do appreciate the friendliness of PP.

                I will definitely check out amts' suggestions for tracks.

                You are all correct, my main motivation for joining a club is for driver training, picking up tips and going away on group trips (safety in numbers and all that). I just worry I won't feel part of a club if I can't join in on the monthly meets.

                  That may well be the case, but club membership fees are generally pretty low, so you haven't got much to loose if it doesn't work out. I imagine most people would be understanding given your work hours.

                    I can vouch for Goolwa beach. We had a nice little trip down the beach to Murray Mouth last year when we were over in SA. Being a noobie to 4wding myself it made for a good morning with the family. It was pretty easy most of the way, though there is a tricky bit towards the end where the sand was quite chopped up.

                      Always happy to assist a newbie with mods, suggestions, buildup etc. Adelaide based also. There are plenty of descent PP guys in Adelaide. PM me. Just watch out for that weird bloke MLC..........

                        Welcome to PP Adelaide Bluey!

                        As Dave above says, the Adelaide guys are great - they love to help spend other peoples money and can easily be bribed for favours...
                        Some are wierd and some are 'dodgy' so take their advice with a grain of salt.

                          Goolwa beach is good for a play, can. Get pretty chopped up on long weekends leading to some boggings.

                            Dear dear me. Let Blue Box decide for him/herself about who is "dodgy"

                            I am yet to lead any newcomer astray. I consider myself very decent in never picking on a newbie. Its not nearly as much fun as picking on a veteran

                              That's a very good point MLC, a PP trip would be an awesome thing to do... or at least an experience I'm sure

                              ... I think I'm going to become very poor at the upcoming 4x4 show as I have no camping gear yet and a roof top tent is my priority. Until I get some gear I'm going nowhere
