Prados in Japan

Love the 70 series, especially the wheels. I saw one up in Port Douglas late last year.

If only you could still buy them. Imagine if you could get one with a v8 turbo diesel, oh wait... you can!

Actually, when I first saw that Prado in Japan, that's exactly what I thought it was - a recent model 70 like yours! They must be very similar.

Same body from the back to the front guards/bonnet which had to be made wider to fit the V8 in. That's why there is such a difference in track width between the front and rear axles.

I've read it's almost a 10cm track difference between front and rear, that's crazy... imagine installing 2x 2" spacers just to get it even!?

Have you noticed any handling issues from it?

A lot of nostalgia for the 70 series. Wow. It was really rough. You guys can have the leaf springs and limited flex, I'll stick with coils thanks.

KZJ78R grey imports have coils all round, come in auto too.

They pop up occasionally on Carsales. There was one on there recently, 1KZ engine, auto 1995 with 175000km for $8K in Melbourne.
Rare to find though and most are the earlier 2.4 turbo diesels with auto which would be quite a frustrating combination on road.

Yeah, it's just under 10cm difference. Crazy!

No handling issues, it handles well. My brother says it looks like it's crabbing when driving behind it because the front tyre is hanging out past the rear.

People are running the spacers, illegal but people are doing it. The other option is wheels with a different offset. I'm just keeping it the way it is, but buying 105 series steel wheels.

Not a Prado but while I was over in Brazil I saw allot of Hilux wagons running around called the Fortuner. They look better in the flesh and I rekon they would be a good thing with a few mods for another mid sized wagon option. Shame we never got them to market here.

I liked the Fortuner as well, see plenty of them around in South-East Asia, I'd have it over a standard ute Hilux anyday!

I doubt they will ever end up here especially with the the likes of Nissan pulling out the 'real' Pathfinder etc, everyone seems to want these useless low medium suv things that can't effectively go offroad...
