I feel for Brad (Maxtrax). but this is inevitable, I appreciate Maxtrax did not invent the first ever recovery device, but it is my humble opinion they are best in market and priced accordingly.

Let others create their own competition and fight amongst themselves for the discount end of the market. I'm sure Tiger and the another associated 4wd Drive Action offshoots will also enter with a recovery plank too in time.

The reality is Maxtrax will only lose a percentage of their original market. As an example, my son is on an apprentice's wage, wanted to buy Treds because they were in his affordability bracket, but has now seen the performance of Treds and Maxtrax. That negative advertising has guaranteed he will be a Maxtrax purchaser.

The biggest compliment MaxTrax could receive is to have their product copied.

Next time you see someone stuck and unable to get out with the 'other' devices, whip out the MaxTrax and show them how it's really done. That way they'll get home and the first thing on their purchase list is a set of said MaxTrax. That'll teach them for trying to skimp on an inferior product. Cost them more to learn a lesson we already knew.

I heard a guy talking about marketing on the radio today, he quoted the figure that 20% of the population shop on price alone. You know the ones, those that drive an extra 10ks to save 2 cents a litre on fuel. The little devil in me secretly hopes I come across someone stuck on the incoming tide with a busted set of cheap imitation Maxtrax, then I can suggest to them they that you get what you pay for as I crack a coldie and watch the tide come in

I probably wouldn't let them go under...............

                Cheers Andrew

Jeez, those ones look cheap even in the pic. I am (eventually) wanting to get a set of recovery tracks. I entertained the idea of the TREDs for a while, but after some more research I came to the conclusion they just arent as good. One of the main things I like about the MaxTrax is they are double ended, meaning if I get a little carried away and rip the jugs off one, thn i can turn it around and use the other side. They also seem to work better as a "shovel"

                    Generic products....
                    Prefer Maxtrax over knockoffs.
Prefer sorbent toilet paper over black and gold.
Prefer brand name medication over generic medication.
Prefer a quality wine over a cleanskin.
And I never take the cheapest quote for tradespeople.

If they put some straps on them, they'd probably double as snow skis. Maybe something handy for those over the east coast.

I have used Maxtrax (I own two pair) and Tweds (belonging to the bogee). Many diggings and Tweds and no forward motion, much action. Many smokes. More diggings and Tweds and no progress but many Indians reading smoke signals. Clean up holes, replace Tweds for Maxtrax and straight out and a full 1.3m progress until bogged again. More diggings (no gold alas) and Maxtrax and another couple of metres progress. So Mr Snatch and Mr Tow rope came out to play. Bogee vowed to de Twed at first opportunity. No doubt some people have had success with other styles/types but Maxtrax have proven superior in my experience. #1 son, also an apprentice, will be using his precious funds to get Maxtrax though where he is planning to go a helicopter might be a better option. #2 son found himself bogged in mud in the Rodeo, insert Maxtrax in the appropriate place and straight back out.

Edit: no snow here Dave, just really bad dandruff.

I thought the percentage would be higher than that. So many people don't understand the concept of false economy when they buy cheap stuff? Fortunately most people here must be in the 80% otherwise it would be a "Great Wall" forum.
I got my Maxtrax last week with a $20 discount. The Treds were $229 plus extra for the recovery straps so they weren't really much cheaper. Happy to pay a few bucks for something that will last.

                          Cheers Ian

I just swapped a 50 year old asbestos disc braked fishing reel for a large set of unused Tyre Pliers. Now, that's a bargain.
