I saw some of these at Super Cheap yesterday. Geez they are flimsy and very ordinary. The lugs look like they will come off the board after the first use. They make the TREDs look fantastic by comparison

            Apologies Mrs Madkore

Big W have a special on Gillette razors which may avoid the confusion in the future. That or maybe a pink ribbon around the beard?

Given my embarrassment I will post out a few PP calendar to you. Its the 2012 and 2013 versions with all the circles around key dates removed.

            Humbly yours

So these would be ok if they were made of better quality plastic?

Which isn't much use if it fails when you need it most!

                        Quite possibly.
If you look on the inside edge of any MAXTRAX on the btm left hand corner you will see 4 small stamp marks. One is the recycling symbol, this shows that the product can be ground down and recyclable at the end of its life span. Different countries have different legislation on recycling. So if you want to export you need this symbol.
The next two markings, small discs / clock face symbols indicate what year and also what month the item was produced.
The last one which In this case is probably the most important shows what material it is made out of PA6-IMD 15%.
Which basically means that it is made from 15% Short fiber glass filled nylon.
Once the nylon comes out of the molds it is then treated - soaked in hot water for at least 24hrs.
This allows the nylon to absorb its required amount of moisture which helps to make it's shape stable and allow it to become flexible for the life of the product.
Uv from sunlight will of course eventually make the colour fade but It shouldn't effect its strength and flexibility of the nylon for many years to come.
MAXTRAX have definitely put a lot of research and development money into the materials that they use.

                        As for the TREDS.
I've looked all over them and can't find any manufacturing stamps.
So I can't say what it is made out of.
All I know is that ever it is made out of It's quite ridged without very much stretch.

But this may in part have to do with the design.
Maxtrax has more gradually angled / tapered edges and curves.
Where the Tred generally has sharper more angular edges.

The other picture I posted up earlier of the broken orange traction ramp is just made out of a cheap Chinese plastic which will go brittle with exposure to sunlight.
You can also see the weak points in its design as the cracking follows the molding edges across the surface of the mold from one side towards the other.

Will certainly be purchasing a set of Maxtrax in the near future and TraxRax to pair. Based on the recommendations here and the reasons already mentioned in this thread. Just have to decide on a colour!

Same reason cheap winches, 2nd rate tyres etc are also a bad idea
