  • 4LO won't engage

    Hi all
    I have a 2010 GX TD manual.
Problem is when I try and select 4LO on the switch it won't engage.
The dash light comes on but continues to flash.
I have tried clutch fully to the floor, brake on, in neutral, hand brake on.
It beeps as well but that goes away when the clutch is press to the floor, but the dash indicator continues to flash.
Any ideas on what the problem may be.
    Cheers

Are you stationary with the transmission in neutral? Placard on sunvisor gives detail on how to do it correctly

      Yes mate I'm stationary.
I've tried moving forward and backwards slowly as well.
Also read the sun visor cheat sheet but still no good.
Hopefully it's not a major drama but I'm stumped.

MMM, sounds like some of issues I was having, it is all electronic check the actuator black box on the back of the transfer case.

Get under the car and get someone to press the switch you should hear the electric motor turn on, but sounds like it might be seized , there just a simple motor and the rear cover just screws off
If your good enough you can service it yourself
Also if this happened out bush and you couldn't get back without 4wd you can remove the black box and activate by hand

Well I have electric centre diff in my 90 , I can go into low range without locking the diff... Pretty sure std transfer cases can't do that

I removed the black acuator cover and found the motor siezed.
                    I think beyond repair.
Has anyone replaced this & do you have to drop your box to replace this.
Also any idea of a replacement cost.
                    Cheers

Box drop and all up around 3k, that is why most of us have the brains guard to protect it.

Was speaking to one of the young mechs at toyotaways he he reckons the box dosen't need to be taken out.
You can dissconnect the unit from the connecting rods (Rods that slid to engage low range) that go into the transfer box.
Has anyone experienced or know of this.
                          Cheers
