Do you want the tent you want to survive a storm in or the tent you want to lift on the roof racks? Quality comes at a price, both weight and $. I have a canvas touring tent however I am planning to swap it for an Oztent in the future.

Not worried about the $$$, Id rather quality BUT in saying that I don't want some thing that weighs so much (have had 2 good quality canvas tents before and can be quit heavy especially if they get wet). I really do like the ease of the Blackwolf but again just the length of it and having to have it on the roof rack turns me off a bit. AS said if in the end I need to run a rack I will (have a rack plus individual racks) but just prefer not to have weight up top if I can avoid it....Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. I'm mulling over an off road trailer with a hard top to take the tents so the roof (and the Prado) are lighter[SIZE=2]120 GXL D4D Auto, with a 'List of Wants' greater than the 'List of Needs' greater than the 'List of Haves'

Another thumbs up for the Blackwolf Turbo 300 Plus, we have ours a good workout at the GTG. Only thing lacking was a side and front panel to keep the rain out of the awning area but they are available as add-ons, We set ours up for the very 1st time in the rain at the GTG and it was reasonably quick, the fly took longer LOL. We got ours across the back seat of the 150, saved trying to heft it onto the roof as it does weigh around 27kgs in the bag. They are also available in a Lite version if you don't want the weight of the canvas.

We have a Blackwolf turbo plus, good tent. Our trips are moving all the time, rarely more than a day or two per campsite, most are overnight and moving on.
Seeing as yours truly gets the job of making and breaking, we're shifting to swags for a couple of reasons. 1) speed, 2) size, 3) weight. If the lad comes, (he usually does), he will have his own swag.
I've been testing a Mitchell Single and it weighs nothing and takes 2 minutes flat to setup. The blackwolf is a relatively fast tent to pitch but nothing like that, and much slower to pack away. There's a knack you need to acquire to fit the blackwolf back in it's bag.
Probably pick up a Mitchell double and we're done. Using Oztent river gum sleeping bag in the swag, comfy as.2008 D4D M6 GXL [MT ATZ-P3][Whitey's Ironman 45710FE/45682FE+KTFR101H/Dob487][extended Roadsafe links][Polyairs][DBA T3/T2][amts diffdrop & recovery points][Tin175's stone guards][Bushskins BashPlate][ARB Sahara][IPF 900s][Snorkel][WindCheetah][MaxTrax][IC-440][Parrot Asteroid][ARB Fridge][Lifestyle 2nd Row Fridge Mount][ARB Compressor][Thumper][SandGrabbers][Cargo Barrier][Tigerz Awning][MCC Rear Bar]

I've had a Cooper Tanbar full Canvas now for about 10 years, used only prob twice a year, but it is very good, easy setup and sleeps 4 people very comfortably with space.
Although I normally only have two people makes it luxurious hehe
Folded is 800 x 800 x 300
I didnt read anywhere how many people you need to cater for normally? This is probably the largest factor in your decision initially.Last edited by juc33_prado; 07-05-2014, 10:36 AM.[I]Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast, Queensland[/I]

A lot of the light nylon tents are not UV stable and go brittle after a few years use. Just replaced a 4man one for this reason. We have a thinker nylon folding style tent for the girls, Coleman I think it is 1 room 2.4 x 2.4 and has performed well so far. The 6 & 8 man has an extended area behind that could be curtained off. We had a huge dome with extra room, a pain to put up and take down. Putting it up in a coastal location with a howling wind snapped a pole and tore the tent. That was it for big tent camping. The camper trailer was bought soon after and have not looked back. light soft floor has fitted the bill till now and with huge amounts of storgae the car was nearly empty, compared to when it all went in the car. We have just upgraded to a hard floor, but that is a moot point at the moment and another story.Chris220220 Finally a Prado owner

Like Ghost we had the old Coleman CV9 which was a great Tent for the family with essentially 3 rooms. Mum & dad at one end and the 2 kids in the other end with all the crap in the middle room which really was a waste. The bug mesh ripped after a period near the zippered door and if it wasnt pegged out correctly was difficult to zip up as there was too much tension on the zipper. A couple of the fibreglass poles split also. The only thing with the large tent (6 x 3 m)was you needed a degree in origami to successfully get it back in its bag. Last year I upgraded to a Black Wolf Turbo Lite Plus 300 which is awesome for the family although it takes some practice to pack it down to get in it's bag again. I imagine the heavier duty model (non lite) would be harder again. The BW has the 2nd room in the back which works well but I found it too big for just the young fella (10yrs) and I for overnighters so I have just bought an Oztent RV3 which after last weekends trip is officially my best camping purchase to date.2004 V6 Grande.
