(Then found it was brilliant, happiest comprimise of all time)

Without changing the tank setup, a new approach to the rear door would be great, that weight thing is a killer

A little more panning for ease of aftermarket options, ie space for diesel gas without removing one of the existing tanks, fitting 33's or even 35's without cutting the car, perhaps a more bulletproof (thinking patrol) driveline

Bonnet scoop and a decent intercooler form the beginning so that it's not an aftermarket issue.

Rear power socket to 12v from the beginning.

Not so much useless space between the panels and the plastic in the rear compartment (seriously there's room for 60l of water in bladders, back there)

If possible, a shorter departure angle, but I'm not that attached to that one.

Don't have the experience of others on this forum, but just my two cents..........
You just described the 70 series

My 120 1KD-FTV suits me to a tee except for one thing. It is a quiet cruiser, comfortable to ride/drive, economical, easy to see out of, love that back door and it's spare wheel,
I have modified mine to more suit it's role but for the love of GOD... I cannot make it tow more then 2500kgs.
All it's competitors can handle 3000kgs. I need to upgrade, my load has grown. If the 150 could tow 3t I'd be in like the proverbial.
Come-on the "180" and TOYOTA... for Pete's sake give it at least 3t. 500nm, 150kw, 8sp auto, keep that door and upgrade the tanks to 100litres but separate them a la 75. 2 fillers, 2 lift pumps, 2 breathers, 2 drain plugs.
And keep the price down to $60,000. then I'd buy 2. We wish....

I'd like to see a better motor, Toyota is doing a deal with BMW for motors so I'd like to see the BMW 7 Series 730d 190KW motor in the new mid range Landcruiser or Prado.

More horsepower and better fuel economy (is there such a thing...?)
280kw and 500nm of torque would be perfect for me along with a 250 litre tank.
Please don't put a bloody bmw motor in there. I can only imagine how much extra you would pay for servicing at a dealer...!

We are not going to get a bigger fuel capacity. Australia would be 5% of the world market and serious tourers in Australia would be 5% of that. Toyota aren't going to cater for that.

              I forgot to add:

Reduce total weight of the vehicle by 1000kg and increase towing capacity to 4t....
Oh and a factory fitted iPad for all passengers just to keep the family entertained.
              Oh and a monkey.

              Just sayin'

"More horsepower and better fuel economy (is there such a thing...?)"

Yes Common rail engines typically produce more power for less fuel than mechanically injected diesels.

                "280kw and 500nm of torque"

Not sure about 280kw but why limit yourself to 500nm? There are plenty of 3 litre diesels producing 550 or more.

Benz produces 190kw and 620nm from 3 litres and free servicing for three years, not sure about BMW but I believe the power is a bit less but you can negotiate the free servicing.

I get the feeling we'll keep the same 4cyl d4d, no petrol and have improvements to power and torque similar to the euro spec, maybe a 6-speed gearbox too. Same chassis, maybe modified slightly, all new body and elec toys. Slightly upgraded towing, higher prices.

Improvements to the Toyota Landcruiser Prado 150

My list of much needed improvements to the Toyota Landcruiser Prado 150. I hope they will be in the next generation:

Gearbox: Replace 5 speed automatic transmission with 8 Speed or at least 6 speed automatic transmission. Gear 1 I find too tall in some descends and upper gears would help with fuel consumption.

No sunroof: Get rid of sunroof in Kakadu. Sunroof takes too much headroom space. My 14 year old finds headroom in the Prado Kakado soo low in the second row that we could not buy it. Sunroof should be an option only.

Interestingly I had with headroom even more of an issue in the Landcruiser 200. While much bigger outside, inside it is a different story. Second row passengers had less room for their feet and also less headroom space. The versions with sunroof (VX and Sahara) have so little headroom not only my children could not fit in the second row but even I struggled in the front. Adding to this lack of tonneau cover in the Landcruiser 200 made it impossible to buy (hopefully this will change in the next version).

Rear-seat entertainment system: change to rear seat headrest setup just as USA version of Prado (Lexus GX) has. Drop down version is dangerous to tall passenger in the centre spot in the second row and it takes a lot of headroom space. My 14 year old finds headroom in the Kakadu too low so we could not buy it and in case of an accident the drop down screen would be hit with the head.

Have 3 proper headrests on the second for seats. Now the centre seat in the Landcruiser Prado 150 has a headrest safe only for smaller people. For a tall person it is not safe to have such a low/small headrest. It is really only a 4 seater now if tall people are passengers.

Remove third row: turn third row seats into an option. We have three kids therefore need 5 seats. Third row reduces boot space too much (around 8 - 10 cm in depth?). Also those seats add additional weight to the car.

Increase fuel tank size. 180 litres size in Prado 120 seemed a perfect size.

Off road technology from Kakadu (rear lockers, multiple cameras, and crawl control) to be able to get as an option (or as standard) in all Prado models. Also front lockers would be great.

GPS, rear and front sensors, with reversing camera, needs to standard on all models. Now we cannot add GPS as an option and aftermarket solutions tend to generate own problems.

Option of taller and wider wheels giving additional road clearance, more grip, and reducing ground pressure (say 285/R70R17 and 260mm ground clearance :-) ).

More powerful Diesel engine. The V8 diesel and V8 petrol engines from the Landcruiser 200 would be wonderful to have.

Improve the Toyota Link app. Now only works with iPhone and Android (where is BlackBerry, Nokia, and other phones support?) and requires me to log into my phone every time I get in the car. Very clunky and stops me from using this functionality.

Rear door – have a barn style door as on Landcruiser 200 GX model and an option for two spare wheels mounted at the back (one on each door)  .

Make it stop beeping so much when opening/closing etc. … It wakes up the whole neighbourhood now.

                      Toyota option of a snorkel.

Have a focused, simple, serious 4wd model, which seats 5 adult passengers. FJ Cruiser could be it if it would be a proper 5 seater. Now FJ Cruiser is really only a 2 seater (2+3). Rear seat in Toyota FJ Cruiser is good for kids only. FJ Cruiser also needs tonneau cover as in Sydney it is not safe to have uncovered boot area (too much theft / break-ins).

While my wish list above looks long I believe this is a great car (buying my 2nd Prado 150 now and would love to get a Landcruiser 200 or maybe FJ Cruiser if either would be big enough inside). I hope Toyota keeps the next generation a tough but modern 4wd, same chassis, NO air suspension, and does not turn it into a softer vehicle. Love the live axle "truck" set up with separate chassis.

I reckon you guys are all dreaming. It's becoming more of a sort roader with every update. The FJ will be the cheaper off-roader of choice for Toyota.

And they can swing from the roof racks and crap in the draws.
