Mount Isa - trusted mechanic?

Hi All

We will be in Mt Isa in about 2 weeks and I'll be wanting to get the vx150 V6 serviced (90k). Can any PP locals recommend a good local mechanic they've used and been happy with? I realise I can go to the local dealer but am looking for alternatives.

I've heard good things about Bears Mechanical in town. Having said that, the local Toyota dealer here, while a bit expensive, is very thorough in their services.

I spent 5 years living there until recently, and I wouldn't trust any of them. While there, I owned a Pajero, Ford, Kluger, and Bell & Moir, the Toyota dealer is the worst of them, with Pickerings (both Ford and Mistu) not far behind.
If you don't have capped price servicing, prepare for a reaming at Bell & Moir.

None of the independent local mechanics inspire confidence either. They all charge like wounded bulls, and do hillbilly style work. Stay away particularly from the Goodyear tyre centre (ARB stealer with woeful pricing) and Miners mate in the Caltex servo.

Trev give Lucian a call at TJM Mt Isa and ask him where to go, tell him Daniel ex Geebung said to chat to you. We also have a guy there that does our breakdowns etc on our fleet as well as looks after a lot of trucks and Hysters at MIM. If Lucian cannot help I will give you johns details.

When are you there? I am back up there in 2 weeks I think, just spent a week there 2 weeks back.

I wouldn't us Bell and Moir unless you have to, expensive and service isn't great whenever I have been in there. I used miners mate and never had any trouble, I found them very thorough.

Thanks for the feedback guys - doesn't seem like there are too many options I might book it into Darwin instead.
@Dan we will be in the Isa around June 2nd - booked Lawn Hill for June 4th I think?

everything is going great we're all still living the dream and have seen some incredible country here in the Red Centre. Like our FB page in the sig for a few pics of us along the way. Be great to catch up if our paths cross.
