hmm environmental and safety criteria to determine your rego cost WTF ?????
so you need to upgrade your car every year or so to get cheaper rego and heaven forbid you keep it for longer
motorcycles, cheaper for lower power to weight ratio and ABS, what the hell does that have to do with rego and what it's supposed to be used for
all sounds like another hungry grab for more cash as most people won't change as often or can't afford to
-
Sounds to me like theres a bunch of stuff going on here.
The government tax base is shrinking. Got to fill the gap some how. After all, politicians can not be expected to take a pay cut.
Apparently motorcycles are a very dangerous past time so the idea it to have all those that must engage in said past time riding low powered, slow scooters. This is a must to stop the carnage. Oh the humanity. Somebody please think of the children.
Environment and safety - clearly, the only thing that will help is making people pay more.

Yeah - I am a bit suss about some of it. What are the criteria for "Safety"? Given how long it took them to sort out the safety ban on Turbo's that didn't allow P Platers to drive 1.2-litre Golfs, but let them drive a 3.6-litre Commodore SV6 I don't hold out much hope of it being well done.
I like the idea of monthly payments though, spreads the cost out over a year. I hate the way so many bills here are quarterly and you get penalised by so many industries for wanting to go monthly.[SIZE=2]120 GXL D4D Auto, with a 'List of Wants' greater than the 'List of Needs' greater than the 'List of Haves'

If it makes things cheaper then good but I doubt it, in NSW we are being hit round the head with a stick when the RTA charging is involved.
I note that they are looking to reduce the rego on caravan and campers but maybe increase the cost of the humble box trailer, someone must have done the sums and worked out that there are more box trailers out there and if they increase the rego on these and reduce caravans they will be in front.
Only last weekend I paid the new rego transfer on our newly acquired Jayco expander that weighs in at 1187kg, The caravan came from Vic where the rego papers showed $49 rego cost, for rego on the same van here it cost me $370 which include a fee of approx $50 for a new plate, but if it was a car with 2 plates I would pay the same plate cost. The NSW govt was nice as they no longer collect stamp duty on caravans. We have also just sorted out the rego on no2 daughters car a Suzuki Swift, in NSW the cost including the $772 CTP green slip comes to $1200,as she has moved to Brisbane the total rego cost including CTP is $649, so now the car is wearing QLD plates, the same as we did for No1 daughter when she moved up there last year. I think to rego a Prado in Qld is the same cost of $650.
We have recently purchased a property up in Qld which we intend to build on and then move to and the stamp duty on this was approx half of what we would pay in NSW.
Sorry about the rant but we are seriously being fleeced by NSW govt and they will only do a review as long as it doesn't affect the budget line.New 2015 150s GX 5 seater with floor mats, towbar and a big wish list

QLD charge based on cylinders or rotors, so a Yaris costs the same as a D4D Prado.
I think this will further disadvantage people who can't afford better equipped cars that have higher ANCAP ratings. I'm sure we would all love every car to have 5 stars, but a base model small cheap Korean is going to struggle at their price point, and then of course those who can't afford more, pay more.

Just read the summary and my gut feeling was correct, In total there are 815000 light trailers [including campers caravans etc] of which 536000 are light trailers that currently pay no weight taxes, govt missing out . So if they apply a weight tax to these trailers and reduce the rego weight tax on the other 280000 trailers by a few dollars then they will be making more dollars. I can see the press release the govt put out saying 280000 caravan or trailer owners benefit from Govt initiative to reduce rego costs with not a mention of the other 536000 that will pay more for the privilege of having that box trailer laying around on the front lawn or that your mate borrowed 2 years ago and hasn't bought it back yet.New 2015 150s GX 5 seater with floor mats, towbar and a big wish list

Will be interesting to see what the Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party & Ricky Muir (Palmer Party's ring-in) will have to say. As he is in the Federal Senate - I'm not sure he has any influence whatsoever anyway. Some good the AMEP is!

Grrrr... Love my vehicle but it's not looking good for my renewal prices. Pricks.
