  • Why such rudeness on the UHF?

I was just wondering why some people are so rude these days.

Last night I finished installing my new UHF and antenna set-up and then did a radio check. One person replied really pleasantly. I wanted to get an idea of my range so I asked what their their location was, at which point some idiot cut in saying " North Korea you C***k head".
I was quite surprised and the only thing I could think of to reply was " thank you, there must be some really good skip tonight then"

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I just don't understand why some people get a kick out of showing themselves up as utter idiots.

its easy to have a big mouth when you are anonymous.

It seems to be a lot worse in the city, there is always a few idiots on the air in Adelaide whenever I visit.

        Cheers Andrew

Yeh have found that I usually turn ours off as we approach a large city (brisbane or whatever) as it's full of bogan morons who do nothing but talk dirty and swear at everyone. In the country areas it seems fine but city areas are full of twits. All brave and full of it on the airway, spineless in real life.

Whenever I listen it's full of bogans swearing their heads off. The wife doesn't let me turn it on if her or the kids are in the car unless it's actually used for 4wd'ing..

Mine stays off for the most part.

The Car Rally Club that I belong to pays for an ACMA license - so we use channels above the normal 80 - just to prevent the said examples.

The other thing that mine has is a 1 minute broadcast time out programed in, along with all the other club UHF radios. This prevents long winded "chats" from weekend warriors. It also has the advantage of keeping comms short and to the point.

My handheld works with the club channels as well, but it has a scan function available - but most of the chatter on lower channels is as mentioned, bogans swearing...

The same happens in the Sydney area, so many dickheads that I don't use my UHF in the metro area. Many don't want to talk, they just yell abuse at other people using the radio.

I hear you! While it is funny by myself listening to drunk guy complaining about his wife getting angry when he went to a brothel........ this isn't exactly family type talk. I hear it all the time in Perth. Idiots just letting loose the worst language you can think of. People thinking they own channels is rife too from what I can tell. These people are out there in the suburbs, thinking it's cool to slag people off anonymously. Not a good report card for the community. But..... not everyone is like that.

I have an old UHF on scan in the garage, some of the random things you here are amusing. Especially the kids playing army games in the park. When you respond with 'operation park storm you have green light to invade'.

Yeah there's some pretty awful stuff that comes out in Sydney so I don't bother, buy I do listen to 40 to get traffic conditions (not when sprogs are in the car though

Glad I live in the country, it's usually OK around here.
