  • Finally its here

After a mere 7 and half months its finally here. A new 2008 VX D4D.

I haven't even had a chance to give it much of a test run, and could only give it a quick look over last night, as it was delivered by the dealer, who took off very quickly.

While going over the vehicle, which was quite dirty on the inside and out, but I didn't really care as it was here, and they all came out with a bit of a wipe down. However there were a couple of marks on the front of the bullbar where the plastic trim meets, and was wondering if this was normal. It looks like they damage the plastic when installing the bar and have simply touched it up. Should I be asking the dealer to replace?

    Front Left

    Front Right

I aslo had a look under neath and found some packing foam under the rear bumber. Its really stuck in there, and almost seems that it should be there. Does anyone know what this does, or should it have been removed?

    Foam under the rear bumber

I'll be having a better look over it today and will get to do some driving of it over the weekend

    Cheers,
    Ray.

    it is a NEW vehicle.
does it make you look differently at the car (do you look straight at the marks)? if so ....
i use and scratch our truck, so to me it makes me feel good, knowing i wasn't the first to scratch it or damage it.
it's your new baby and you are the one that would have to take it back, and probably leave it with them to fix it. more time you don't have the new D4D to play.
i wouldn't but others would. what does everyone else say?

I take the opposite approach. I'd hate for someone else to damage my rig. I'd take great pride in being the first to do damage, or to "pop it's cherry" if you will.

Damonat raises a very good point though, it'll be a week or so without the new toy.

      Pros and Cons...

      Cheers,
      AJ

when i posted my initial reply, i could see the pics, and assumed it was paint scratch. now i've seen the pics, appears to be the endcaps of bullbar, i would return to toyota as they can easily just replaced these caps.
and then there could be a cheap sov bar going cheap at that dealer soon, for some lucky person.
it's an easy fix for them and you. i would say go back and see them.
maybe you could do a deal. "fix it or do something else for me". worth a try

on a new vehicle I wouldn't be impressed at all. I'd try the fix it or compansate me for the damage line.

Now all we need is a tail shaft prop adaptor and we can get through anything!

If it was me i would be raising the issues with the dealer principle and demanding that they be fixed asap and that you should be only with out the vehicle for a day max and should supply a courtesy vehicle for the duration of repairs.

You have just shelled out in excess of 50k for this vehicle. They need to be held accountable.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have sent the images off to the dealer, and they'll get back to me. :?

I think I'll push them for the compensation angle, as there was also so floor mats that were greased up. I'm suspicious that it was used for a couple of test drives, but of course can't prove anything.

I'm happy to wait until the 1000km service, so I'm not put out at all, so hopefully the dealer will be as well (and assuming they'll actually do something about it all). Otherwise it will gloves off.

                Cheers,
                Ray

you have spent heaps of hard earned $$ on your new ride, with that dealer, and it's their reputation that can be easily tarnish by something that is so easy to rectify now.
the best ammunition you have, is that you contacted them asap.
that way it's harder for them to wiggle their way out, if they try.
                  best of luck

Well, when I got mine there was a grand total of 6k's on the clock. I told them there'd be several Hells to pay if it was touched for test driving. At the moment, with generally zero Prado's available to test drive at dealerships, you need to get your @ss in there the nanosecond it's ready for pickup. I got taken for a test drive in someone's new Prado....... So I know it happens. In my view, a 50 - 60k vehicle should be frakking spotless when you pick it up. I don't care if the dealer had to use his silk smalls to buff the marks off. Spotless........ got it! No dints....... Got it! Not 2nd hand! GOT IT!!!! Dirty inside and out stinks like rotten meat. Damaged parts, no matter how small, reeks like a dead fish in the Oz summer heat. If that was me, I'd get back to the dealer, chuck a wobbly, point out the vacuum cleaner, shove a chamois in their jocks, make them eat the the damaged plastic parts, shove the foam packing in an extremely uncomfortable place , and tell them to get it Frakking right!

The meek may very well inherit the Earth, but not before kicking some @ss first!

About 2 years ago when I took a new vehicle for a test drive the salesman was "desperate" to get the vehicle back to the dealership with UNDER 100ks on the clock. His explanation was that other dealerships would only accept it as demo model with under 100ks ... Seemed sus to me and, together with his urgent manner a question was raised in my mind; so i did a little research on the net. From what i read, it sounded as if it was actually possible (dont know if its legal or not) to zero an odometer with less than 100ks on it - some sort of an electronic "reset".

... just wondering if anybody knows about this sort of thing?

i know this is not possible...
a vehicle that is denoted by a dealer ship as a demo
                          (depending on manufacturer),
generally they need to use as a demo for a certain time period
for a toy that is 45 days and km don't matter.
my guess. that vehicle; the contact had been signed for and keep the km's low so they could say, it was used to have external accessories fitted. customer would probably be annoyed, but not as much if it was over 100kms.
this is not allowed, and i guess that is why he was rushing. so the stock controller didn't notice. A BIG NO NO.
i'm sure the new owner would have been
but the salesman 8) if he got your sale

Do you know whether dealers have (or had) some electronic doovy-a-dacky for resetting low k odometers? Thought i had read something about this ... happy to be corrected.

i know from years of experience having worked with toyota (started on the floor as an apprentice then up to office) there is no toyota machinery that this can be done on.
BUT there are a few companies that do/deal with guages/speedo's and from what they have told me over the years, they too have nothing. the speedo's keep that in memory.
BUT 1 person once slipped and said something like "there is a company in melbourne that can".
this would have to be the case, as for warranty purposes with a vehicle that has e.g 25896kms on it and the speedo stops working. we supply toyota the details and shortly there after a speedo arrives with those km's on it.
that is all i can tell you "bear".
i must say that i no longer work in the automotive field and this may have changed, but if so, it must have been recently.
                              hope this helps
