      Hi Will,
Have you seen one of these models in the flesh yet? Maybe it can put to rest the quality issues some people have described. I don't own an MDC nor seen one close up other than parked up/ packed up. Correct me if im wrong but is the Nomad v4 the 26k model? The do state on the website that it has Dynaproof canvas throughout? Not sure if you have looked around at other suppliers but you can get a hell of a good camper made in Australia with Australian canvas for that type of coin. I've just been through the research process and recently bought a camper myself (currently being built). A big help was joining the Myswag forum where the camper trailer your interested in no doubt has allot of owner opinions to read up on.

Its allot of money at the end of the day so my advice is to take your time with the decision making process. Half the fun is choosing your trailer once you commit to a budget. Good luck.

      Cheers,

As the old saying goes, "You get what you pay for."

There are plenty of great 2nd hand Aussie made campers around with Dynaproofed canvas for the same sort of price.

Briefly spoke to a MDC owner on my recent trip to the Kimberley, didn't have a good word to say about it, but he may have got a lemon.

              Just my 2c worth.

Just an update/tip for any of you with one of the cheaper MDC trailers. Had a look over it this weekend and noticed bubbling under a small section of powdercoat around the plate which the hitch attaches to. Looks like a stone chip let some moisture in....

Anyway pulled it apart and got a sander on it and fark the powdercoat is thin! Obviously a cost saving by MDC but it flaked off like paint. Anyway stripped it all back, killed the rust and sprayed it with gunmetal hammered finish paint and its a perfect match! was a ten minute job.....Looks like nothing happened....

Anyway still very happy with the trailer and i guess i was expecting something like this on a 5k cheapie. For the cost of a can of paint im still 10k up on some of the others out there. Bear in mind that you will need to be on the lookout for this kind of stuff as part of your maintenance regime.

                    I'm considering one of these.

They seem to have come a long way in the last couple of years

My tip - go to one of the caravan/camping/4wd shows and have a look at all of them side by side.

I went to the 4wd show last year in melb and had a few pre-conceived ideas on the quality of some of the campers & was really surprised to see them in the flesh.
I thought the black series campers would be rubbish, and was actually really surprised as to the finish of them.
On the flip side, I wasnt really all that impressed with the finish of the MDC ones.

The Ezytrail ones surprised me with their quality too - they looked pretty good.
Of course they were a few grand more, but as has already been said you get what you pay for.

One that did surprise me was the Cub Campers - they always seem to have the good name, but I thought they were really lacking for what you pay for them.

Then there is the Kimberly Kampers......if only i could win lotto....

I had an interesting conversation with a trailer builder in Sydney who told me pretty much the same thing.

                            Hey Matt,

What brand and which model you ended up buying?

                            Thanks in advance.

The "dynaproofed" label is a top quality canvas that is impregnated with a wax solution to make it waterproofed. You only have to touch them both to feel the difference. You can see daylight thru the roof sometimes with the ripstop and on a morning with heavy dew is far more likely to drop condensation inside. I went for 15 oz canvas on the roof and walls and the quality of stitching and zips are heavy duty. There is a reason the army use this heavy duty canvas. I'm a big believer in buy once cause if you do buy a cheaper quality you may end up paying twice anyway.the age old saying"you get what you pay for". In saying that we didn't have unlimited cash supply so we worked out what we wanted in a trailer and narrowed it down to a couple of brands and bought a 2nd hand trailer that was 2 years old for almost half the price it was bought for with all the bells and whistles we wanted but could not afford brand new. Just be patient a be willing to travel. We saw one on gumtree on a Tuesday ,I organised Thursday and Friday off work and drove from Brisbane to Canberra round trip in 4 days with 2 kids and drove it home. With the quality of the canvas this applies to the trailer as well. I reckon shop around and buy a good quality Aussie made product that will last and you won't be disappointed.

                            Cheers Matt
