I just did a quick search and could only find it listed as a 27 MHz CB.

Are you sure it is an Australian UHF cb?

It is a 27Mhz HF AM type radio not UHF. and does not even seem to have USB/LSB either.
They still use 27Mhz in the USA. but one with side-band is a much better choice. (much greater range).
The only reason to get a 27Mhz unit in Australia is if that is what your buddys are still using, in which case consider one of each.
Most people in Australia now use 455Mhz FM, (now 80channels) I suggest you look at UHF FM radios like GME TX3345 or Uniden UH8060NB or you may want to consider a hand held unit...

Marine radio in Australia uses the frequency range 27.68 to 27.98MHz.
The Bearcat 880 operates in the frequency range 26.965 to 27.405MHz.

If you bought it in Australia as a UHF CB radio it is clearly not fit for purpose.

Why can't you return it for a refund?
