Mobile brake disc machining

I'm giving my brakes a bit of an overhaul (new fluid, seals, pistons, etc), and also want to have the discs machined. When I googled brake disc machining a whole bunch of mobile services pop up. Has anyone used a mobile brake disc machining service? Is it as good as taking the discs off and having them machined?

And can anyone suggest a place to have the discs machined on the western side of Brisbane?

Makes no difference. When I was still mechanic'ing we had both in our workshop. Some vehicles are easy to get the discs off and others are a down rite pain in the proverbial. As far as there being a difference in the quality of the job? No, there is no difference.

For what you're going to pay for machining, you may be better off getting new rotors by paying a little more. I got a quote to machine my fronts and it was $45 each. A new pair can be bought for around $100 for a plain rotors. If you take the rotors off and take them to a shop and get mates rates, it might be cheaper.

Thanks, I think I'll try one of the mobile services then. I have some rather expensive cryo treated slotted discs that deserve a second chance.

The rotors come off easy, just remove the calliper, and a few hits with a hammer to loosen any rust, and the rotor will fall off.

How west of Brisbane? Out Ipswich way we use Baileys brake and clutch at Bundamba (Brisbane side of Ipswich). We are trade customers but usually pay about $50 for the pair machined. Also Repco at west Ipswich machines for about the same cost.

Some vehicles it is better to get them machined on the car (bolt on rotors, especially where they require hub removal to remove the rotor), but for the prado off the vehicle will be fine, and usually a bit cheaper too.

Thanks, I spoke to Baileys and they'll do the pair for about $50 if I take the loose discs in. I'll try and do that tomorrow.
