  • Forecast floods for the centre of Aus.

Doubt whether there will be too many people driving around southern N.T and northern S.A., but the Weather Bureau has forecast heavy rain and subsequent flooding starting from today, with areas isolated for a couple of weeks afterwards.

Should mean quite a bit of water in Lake Eyre, north and south, and out to the east. Have seen Lake Eyre south bone dry, also flooded.

The farmers needed water out there, probably will be too much at once.

North, really? You might like to look at a map

I have been to lake Eyre a few times but only seen it dry, if it fills I can see another trip coming up!

Probably more rain then ideal for the farmers but we always say that there is more money in mud than dust.

      Cheers Andrew

Well, Loxton is north of some place or other !!!

Water in it a few years ago. The level was dropping, so it was too hard to wade out too far because the mud was like quicksand. I saw some tyre tracks head out some distance into the mud (was told that some galoot tried to drive out to the water, became stuck, and had to be winched out)

Well actually I am in Loxton North, so even further North than Loxton, this is an important distinction during footy season

2012 when I did Madigan's I am pretty sure it had water in it but we only got onto the Oodnadatta track at Oodnadatta, came home on the Birdsville track and didn't have time either direction to make the detour, anyway, any excuse for the next trip!

          Cheers Andrew

                My saying is
Mud and Money both start with M.
If you dont get the first, you certainly dont get the second.
No good having a broke cocky, if they have money most people get a bit of it somewhere. Businesses and passed down to workers along the line.
                Cheers

If AJ120 is in the North of SA, I must be in the Far North!

As for Riverland footy, yes, a big difference between Loxton & Loxton North, but they are still both on the wrong side of the river, and both downstream from Renmark.. Just sayin!:

Loxton North won the Premiership last year, where did Renmark finish I am pretty sure we are on the best side of the river down south here

I see Alice Springs has had 7 inches in the last 4 days, Katherine has had 8. The whole NT will be green .

Having lived in Alice Springs for 10 years, it always amazed me to see how quickly the Todd Rivers and other desert rivers could quickly rise. Seeing the head waters of the Todd River flow down the dry riverbed certainly is a spectacle. In the desert, flash flooding can quickly occur and catch unsuspecting people out. Water has enormous kinetic force that is often underestimated by people.

I see from the NT News website that one poor (looks like a Prado owner) has already had to be rescued from their drowned vehicle.

I also remember once seeing a car that had been flooded in the Todd River after the waters had resided. The car was 3/4 full of sand. It wasn't going anywhere.
