Cant say I like paying for any optimisation apps, and would not use any free ones.

    Do like ssd's.

Windows 8/10 on usb 3 installing to a pc with an ssd is finished in no time. Add ninite to the mix, whole pile of utilities, browser media players etc installed. Spend 30 minutes adding any other software and your good to go.

Sure using an MFT defrag utility can fix and speed up a pc, but there are other reasons for a pc running slowly. Most people are not really careful about what software they download and install, IMHO just start again and you know you have a clean slate.

Even at work, with pc's locked down and users unable to install software etc, usually the most time efficient way to fix the problem is just start again. Couple of clicks in SCCM and the pc has a fresh install with all software loaded in an hour.

A workplace using imaging software as a reinstall method is clearly structured and organised, with an IT knowledgebase behind it. I'm guessing that workplace has most of it's fundamental data stored or mirrored on remote machines and any locally stored data is confined to one or two folders, plus plenty of time spent honing those images and servers. A typical PC (personal computer) is usually a dog's breakfast in comparison. If most people don't understand what they download and install, they certainly don't know how to properly back up their data without losing something important; how to properly reinstall their operating system, let alone know off-hand where to find all the little settings to make it work exactly how they want it to. They also won't know how to properly troubleshoot a crashing or slow PC, and you can bet your bottom dollar it's not going to take them less than an hour to reinstall the OS and apps.

I agree that there are other things that can make a PC slow. Excepting hardware faults and inadequacies and the most persistent malware, there is very little that can't be fixed with considerably less time and effort than a reinstall - too many running processes, multiple memory-resident scanning tools, rogue software (bogus malware/optimisation software, etc), browser add-ons, glitched updates, etc etc. Sorry - as mentioned before, I think people jump far too quickly to reinstalling the OS when they really don't need to.

Sorry for the thread going off-topic too.
