Turbo, I'm selling my 2011 D-Max which would tow your boat comfortably (just needs a brake controller fitted). I'm only selling it because my circumstances changed and I need a wagon not a ute (took possession of my 2012 Prado GXL yesterday). Let me know if you're interested and I can send you some details. Only has 47,000km's on it. Nice boat by the way.

I've got a 2014 Ranger and its great. Tows my loaded 2T trailer much better than my Prado. I'd definitely buy another Ranger. I put a throttle booster on it and it's like a rocket ship.

Interesting the comments mainly about quality of all brands. Toyota 3lt D4D has been a real embarrassment to Toyota with a major recall. The other issue I have is with Toyotas total lack of customer understanding rating the Prado at 2.5t towing to ensure they retain sales of the 200 series cruiser, then with the new model Hilux suddenly uprating the tow capacity from 2250kgs to 3500kgs with a smaller capacity engine based on the same chassis.
Where is their credibility. I have been a Toyota 4WD owner for 20 + years and I believe that they are running on reputation now not the reality of their vehicles. For company cars I have had Holdens and Falcons and rate the Falcon as a much better vehicle and have never even had an issue so have not had to test the dealer for warranty issues.
For towing I have a friend with a 3 year old Ranger extra cab tray back that has a 7.2mt plate hull tinny that weighs on trailer 2.6t and he tows it to Cairns three times a year and he hasn't spent a cent on it other than services. This is also his work vehicle and has now over 200'000k's.
I am now waiting for the Ford Everest as being based on the Ranger any problems should be sorted out.

Given the choice between a Ranger and an Isuzu Ute - we sell and service both - I would go for an Isuzu. We just don't do a single warranty repair on them at all. We only ever see them for service! This week we have done the following repairs to new shaped Rangers - a snapped driveshaft, rear main oil seal, valve body on the trans and it is only Tuesday!
And some irritating chick makes out they are better than Toyota on the TV ad!Comment
