I personally think it's a bit of advertising trickery on their behalf. Their ads say the $1500 is recovery when "off road". There are many gazetted roads that are not sealed as we all know - many regular towing agents will not recover out of that environment. There are specialist recovery agents who will get your car out of this sort of situation and our off-road recovery cover is there to cover the cost of you doing so. Just get the car recovered and send in a tax invoice from a registered towing agent and we will reimburse you depending on the coverage that you have.

Absolutely correct - the limit is based on the $ amount. That's too hard a question to answer - it will be dependant on where you are driving. There are gazetted tracks in each of those locations that you can easily find on a map - these are tracks that have been identified and published by the government. Spilsy you are correct. Our cover is designed to help cover the cost of getting you out of places that no one else will cover you for - to my knowledge no insurer or roadside assist will arrange for the Birdsville Recovery truck to come out and get you to the nearest gazetted. $650 is about the standard for Excesses. I think I've always had a $650 excess...with Budget Direct, Toyota Insurance and RACV.

Hi There. this mayt not always be the case but at the moment we don't open on weekends or public holidays, but neither are repairers. Generally if the car isn't drivable the tow operator would take the car to a holding yard until a business day at which point you can direct them where the vehicle needs to go under our preferred repairer scheme.Originally posted by Spilsy View PostIs this despite your comment about calling them on Boxing Day? Having never (touch wood) needed to call an insurer after an incident, I assume its not the end of the world if I do not speak to someone immediately. In fact, talking with my insurer is probably the last thing on my mind.
I guess if you can get as much detail as possible at the time of the incident, calling the next business day cant hurt.Spilsy

They explained that they don't open on PHs or Weekends but will always process any claims asap and reimburse any costs incurred. Roadside assistance (if you take it up) is 24/7 so no problems there. I was satisfied with the explanation. They honoured the original quote I had from them so happy days, I'm in. Always hope you don't need to use the service and make a claim but...

Correct, if it is just a group touring (much like what would be arranged by every 4X4 club) that's fine.
