Youi insurance: 2015: got quoted 1500+ for 2015 new GXL. Is that legit?!
I keep seeing 70 dollar/month quotes on here - are they for older vehicles?
That's about what youi wanted to charge me for my 2013 gxl. I tried to get them down to under $1k but they couldn't
Just received my racv renewal and the price has gone up by $7/month. (up to $85/month)
I called and they're sending out a new notice with a better price. But will legitimately be looking to change if it's not as good as my previous price with them

ok - so they got back to me with a quote of 975 for comprehensive for a 2015 new GLX prado with 760 excess for listed drivers?
I think that's a good quote? especially for a new vehicle? There is nothing on gazetted roads or non-gazetted roads however, which I'm worried about, since I'm taking it to Fraser Island next week.

Fraser Island beach, and the formed tracks are considered roads I believe, they have speed limits, and the like. However you are right to think about insurance when "off road" as I know some companies have exclusions for off road cover.
SE Qld: GX 150GD Auto, (Feb'16 build): TJM T15 steel b bar, 9,500lb TORQ winch, TJM s steps, Rhino Pioneer Platform (42102B 1928X1236mm), front recovery points, Wynnum towbar, P3 brake controller, TNN Underbody guards, UHF, TREKtable & LED striplight, Custom Fridge & Drawers, Waeco CFX50, 9inch illuminator 160W LED spots, 40mm lifted Dobinson Suspension (Zordo's), ScanguageII, 30 Sec Wing Awning
You're 100% right brogers - just wanted to call out that you have nothing to worry about in terms of coverage! as long as you aren't trespassing or doing something illegal or not following road signs such as closures etc you will be covered.
So my current insurer will not cover me for Landcruiser Mountain Park at all. Basically if I take my Prado in there, I am on my own in their eyes.
What is Club 4x4's view on places like that and let's say I do crash it while not being "unreasonable", would I still be covered?
Also in the Glasshouse Mountains National Park here, we have our own Big Red, would I be covered if I tried to tackle it and rolled for example?

Yes I am concerned, but curious as to what your policy is as to the costs involved in vehicle recovery i.e. bogged down vehicle which may require specialist equipment and also towing in rural areas? is there a km limit for example?

Thanks!
From what I can gather, regardless of the type of recovery, you pay the excess ($200), Club 4x4 cover the first $1500... Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

"If your vehicle suffers a mechanical failure, becomes stuck or cannot be driven and you require assistance from a third party to transport, tow or recover your vehicle while driving offroad, we will reimburse you the costs incurred to transport, tow or recover the vehicle to the nearest gazetted road. An excess of $200 will be applied to any payment we make which, under this additional benefit, is limited to one (1) claim per policy period, up to a maximum of $1,500. "
So, are the tracks in the Simpson/Fraser beach/OTT gazetted or not?

I live in Darwin i have a 2014 GXL Turbo Diesel with just under $10000 with of accessories fitted, got a quote of $93 mthly, about $5 less than my current insurer, my current insure has a $450 excess, with Club 4x4 i chose the lesser of the 4 excess amounts available which is $650.
When you look at the big picture this does seem like a very good deal, what with recovery costs and actual 4x4 damage cover, my only concern is $650 excess, maybe I'm being a little picky.

I guess this is where your standard roadside assistance kicks in...They get you out to where a normal tow truck can go??? Though normal tow trucks do not get to every gazetted road...
A gazetted road is a road which has been named and published as a public road in your state government's gazette. However, just because the road has been gazetted at some point in the past, doesn't necessarily mean that it remains open to the public today. Land owners can apply to council to restrict or deny access to gazetted public roads which run through their property

$650 is about the standard for Excesses. I think I've always had a $650 excess...with Budget Direct, Toyota Insurance and RACV.
