  • Tinting Via Dealership - Recommendations

Buying a 2016 white GXL prado from Perth dealer north of the river. They have offered tinting of the whole Prado for about $490.
We also discussed just tinting just the front door windows and the price was $290 (This is what i was thinking of doing). He said the tint was a slight bit lighter than the privacy glass.

The salesman mentioned the UV protection and was approved via toyota?? (Something about issues with some tint having metalic properties).

Never had tint on my 120 series Prado -is it worth it- sand scratching does worry me a bit as I use down the beach ?? Has anyone just tinted the 2 front windows??

Unsure which way to go so appreciate any advice.

Tinting is definitely worth the effort, however I wouldnt get the dealer to do it. Go to a tint specialist after you collect car, it will be cheaper and probably get a better job. I think I paid about $330 for whole car. I'm pretty sure the Privacy glass has no uv protection.

I got my 120 tinted via New Town Toyota when I bought it. They actually out-sourced it to a tint shop around the corner from the dealer. I sent it back after 2 weeks due to some bubbles and they re-did the whole car. Perfect job and still immaculate to this day. The factory privacy glass has a UV rating - all automotive glass has to comply, but you really need some decent tint to help the air-con keep up - especially with our WA climate. My dark tint (street legal) makes it difficult to see into the back of the car and passenger doors. I just got the wife's new car tinted with darkest legal tint and, because I got it through the dealer, it's warranted for 10 years.

You will notice a big difference with tinting done. I had mine done by TKO tinting in Welshpool. I've had several vehicles done by them over the years, always a good job & a fair price, so happy to recommend them. I think it cost me about $365 last year for full front & rear darkest legal.

Definitely go for some tinting whether you go through the dealer or not. its well worth it and don't worry about sand scratching it. I've always had tinting and sand has never scratched it as its on the inside of the glass

Tinting is definitely worth it. I had mine done by the dealer (who outsourced) and they managed to muff it three times. After the last time, the tinting guy offered to come to my house and do it again. I'd had enough by then. I wouldn't bother going through the dealer. It's cheaper elsewhere

I agree with the others. Better to get proper tinting in addition to the factory tiny. Will make a big difference inside the vehicle.

As others have said, I'd recommend you arrange for your car to get tinted through a reputable tinting business. There's always good deals on offers. You'll pay extra via the dealer for the privilege of convenience.

If you are after protection from heat and UV discuss it with the tint provider as the darkest legal gives you privacy but not the best UV and heat reflection available

I was told by a couple of different tinting companies that they charge the same price to do the front two windows as they do for doing the full car...

I checked with my dealer. They are quoting $295 for just the front door windows or $495 for all windows.

If you ask around outside the dealership, I think you'll find that full tint cost is in the ball park of $300.

                              Definitely go the tint.
Much more comfortable driving and as others have said the air con works better.
Dealers get the tint done cheap and mark it up for you.
Go direct and if your south of the river try Tint Tech in Cockburn.
