  • 2.8L prado with DPF - any issues?

    Hi guys,

I know it's a little early still but want to know how the new cars are going and how the DPF is behaving? Is it causing any issues?

    Thanks

A colleague has one and he drives on the freeway to work for long enough to think that the DPF would do its burnoff thing but on occasion, the engine would be revving at 2500rpm when he gets home.

Edit: Correction, it is 1200rpm and not 2500rpm.

Yea just hope they don't cause too many problems like we had with out Mazda back in the day. Bought the Mazda second hand and had no idea of the DPF at the time. Just wonder if I had it from new whether I would of had all those issues in the first place.

So curious to see how it's all going for the new Prado's

        Mines going fine.

It used to idle up to 1200rpm when I'd shift it to neutral and it was doing a burn but it the last burn yesterday only rose to 900rpm.

DPF does its thing around every 300kms but most of my miles are surburban (unfortunately).

Andrew - 2500rpm sounds very high, sure you dont mean 1200-1500?
        Cheers

Yes I made sure I heard right because it sounded high for a diesel.

I found if its around town does a lot of burns, but if you take out onto highway and give it full throttle run up to speed it cleans out that way aswell.
Haven't had any dramas yet either and hopefully won't. A dpf is new technology any more so all the fault should be out

Might sound like a silly question to you guys, but how do you guys know when it is doing a burn?

At idle it will rev up from around 700 to 900 rpm and if you turn the car off there can some times be a slight burning smell (bit like rubber).

2500rpm does not sound right at all! Mine has never gone over 900 to-date.

I've not experienced any issues, but have only just ticked over 6000km.

I hope mine is working OK. I have never noticed it.

My bad, was thinking about idle-up when I wrote this. Yes it increased from idle (around 700rpm) to 900rpm and I can sometimes smell the burn if I shut it down before its done.

Surprised you havent noticed it Greg, when burning off and you're in gear it pushes forward in the same was as the idle-up.
Then again you might not noticed if you're not in urban traffic as it'll do the burn quicker at moderate/highway speeds...
                    Cheers

Have you put a 2.8 in your 120?

My 2.8 manual revs to about 1200 after roughly 300Km and smells. I suppose this doesn't cause any issues but it still irritates me (grumpy old man) if I am about to back a boat down a ramp as I feel a bit of a prat with the engine revving unnecessarily.
As for being "new technology" let me remind everyone that Toyota only have to meet Euro 5 emission regulations in Australia so they dump their old engines to this market. In the UK for instance it has been illegal to sell an engine that does meet Euro 6 spec since September 2015.

OK I assumed the 3L was the same. (You know what they say about what happens when you assume)

Have done just over 17k and no issues so far - as said previously, rises from 700 rpm to approx 1,200 every 3-400 kms (manual)
