  • Which Awning?

    Hi All,

Father in law must have been in a good mood because on the weekend the missus was talking to him about maybe getting a Foxwing awning and he's decided he'd get us it as an early Christmas present.

Just wondering if the foxwing is what we should be going or is there something better of equivilant / lesser value.

We mostly want it for when we take out two little ones on the beach, I like the fox wing because it looks so easy to put up but I'm just wondering is there anything else I should be considering?

We're tight for space as well and I'm wondering if the foxwing brackets can be mounted upside down to keep the unit below the roof rack?

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated

    Cheers

    Craig

There is a product called an Ostrich Wing which deals with wind very well, whereas Foxwings and the awnings do not. Unfortunately you can by the foxwing factory for the price of an ostrich Wing. That said, if I get any awning, that will be the one.

Other than the Ostrich Wing, the foxwing would be the next choice.

I've neither, however, if I buy a pop up Camper trailer a Foxwing may be on the list somewhere?? Having small kids is draining my wallet!!

We managed to pick up a foxwing with a couple of the tapered walls. Always thought the walls would be a waste but have used them numerous times, both in good weather and bad. Once you get the hang of it you can put it up in bad weather, think the beach blowing 25+ knots.

Looked at the Ostrichwing but could not justify the extra spend.

The foxwing replaced a 2.5 x 2 meter awning and is well worth the extra dollars.

Would not be without one now

Ours is mounted with the brackets up the other way to the picture in this link

Spending someone elses money so trying to keep it somewhat under control :P

Great to hear this is possible, thats the one thing I havent liked about the foxwings ive seen, is how high they site above the roof mouth, but if I can flip it over wouldnt be an issue with garage clearance then.

If I had a chance to upgrade my awning, I would go with the Drifta! Your solutions is to put some dollars in for it as well!!

we have a foxwing for 4 years, so far so good, 1 extra wall, and we have an oztent that zips onto one side. Love it so far and it has held up well after 4 years.

One thing to note with these wing awnings is the weight. The 30sec awning weighs 27kg. Some roof platforms are 25-30kg. That doesn't leave much room for anything else given the roof capacity is 100kg.

we have a Foxwing, which was given to us 😊, can't say enough about it. Bit of getting use to setting up in wind but do as a team and all good.

have the extra wall, which is great.

going back to the Oztent and Foxwing for camping from the box camper trailer form ease of use and quickens in set up and down

Foxwing - because Tassie is fairly breezy/windy - I can set it up on my own. Requires a little planning, but can be done.

I've been able to stuff the legs behind the headrest's between the cargo barrier.

Again, own an Oztent, so will zip on.
