  • Oztrail Tourer 9 vs Dune Kimberly 9

    Hi,

I'm after a cheap touring tent for quick setup when travelling and the occcasional weekend away. I don't plan to use the tent in the rain so I wasn't planning to spend big $ on an Oztent or Blackwolf.

I came across the Oztrail Tourer 9 and Dune Kimberly 9 which seem to have very similar specs. Does anyone have any experience with either of these? Both have the ability to use a side pole kit but the Dune comes with the side poles.

    Thanks,

I've got the Oztrail one. Have only used it a couple of times as I prefer my swag. Is quick and easy to put up and heaps of room. I use the centre pole and there is still enough room for a queen size mattress behind it in the extension bit. I paid around $350 for BCF from memory.

Can I throw a spanner in the works:

I picked mine up for $150 from rays outdoors. Once you've got your pegs in, it takes about 20seconds to erect (you pull a string trhough the centre and the steel frame erects). For $150, I couldn't go wrong.

I'm going shopping on the weekend. I'll check them out. I prefer canvas as I've had bad experiences in windy conditions with the poly tents.

Have been using a Dune Kimberly 9 for a year or so now. Its got a bit of an orange tint to it now, thanks to 3 weeks in central. But its been great, quick to set up, hasn't leaked in the rain and seems well made. Only issue is the bag it comes with it utter crap...I put mine in an Oztrail Canvas Furtinute bag & throw it on the roof...

I've got a Oztrail Tourer 9 Plus (9 with a bit of extra room at the back), at the time they through in the side pole kit, which is great as it really opens up the space inside. Real quick and easy to put up. I hosed it in the front yard when I got it to season it as you should do with canvas tents, anyway first time out it absolutely bucketed down for a couple of hours and it leaked a bit, there was a pools of water outside and I think it leaked where the floor is sown to the canvas walls. We after drying it out, think that did a job and has seasoned it, no leaks since, though haven't had the same amount of rain on it again. It is pretty bulky and heavy but all canvas tents tend to be.

Pity you're in QLD, I have an as new Primus (NZ canvas) touring tent, with awning and side pole kit, looking for a new home in VIC.
