  • V8 Prado

Reading an article about the 200 series Landcruiser and its Kinetic Dynamic Suspension and it made reference to another Oz invention called a Reverse Function Stabiliser (RFD) system that is installed on the US GX470 Prado. Not sure what it all does as yet but what caught my eye was the comment that the GX470 Prado has a 4.7L V8 engine.

Does anyone know of a plan to introduce the V8 to Australian Prados?

God I would kill or trade my wife to be able to put a V8 diesel in my Prado!

They never will as it'll eat into sales of the 200 series.
2007 GXL V6 - ARB Bullbar with LED lights, snorkel, extractors, 2 1/4" dual exhaust, K&N filter, dimpled/slotted rotors, headrest dvd players, Ebay Satnav/reverse camera, GME 3100TX, Tigerz11 Side awning on custom brackets with Maxtrax mounts, 300W Invertor, ARB Underbody protection, Lightbar and STZ 265/70 tyres.

sad panda.... i understand the tow rating for a prado is artificially held at 2.5t due to marketing?

Re towing capacity for Prado V6 does anyone know if you can safely increase towing capacity above 2.5 t as this will stop me eventually trading up to a Landcruiser so I can tow something bigger. At the moment it seems like I can only buy about 21 foot van but I would like one slightly bigger say 2.6 t. Is this going to make a lot of difference re towing capacity. I have significantly increased the weight of my Prado with extras but not sure if increasing the gross weight can allow slightly increased towing capacity. Buy the way, how do members add mods to their profile as I see with some comments e.g Prado Kakadu, V6?

Yes I suspect this is the case but some of us do not want a giant Landcruiser but would kill for more power in their Prado. I bought the V6 as I wanted more speed but the fuel consumption is dreadful.

The Lexus GX470 is a petrol V8 and there are no plans to offer it in Oz. It's not built for left hand drive. If you want a V8 with 3.5T towing, but can't afford a LC200, Nissan has something for you...

It is also worth mentioning that the Lexus variants GX470 and GX570 have the V8 and auto only options.

There is no diesel variant in North America.

I believe there are places that will re-engineer the Prado for 3T capacity but I believe this may only be for the GX/GXL variants without the Kinetic (in the VX and Kaka).

Supercharging maybe an option. Your V6 will respond very well to forced induction. Your wallet may not

                      leave it as it is....
Has anyone on here ever found it short of power and torque when using for what I consider it's main purpose and why you would buy one.
                      4 wheel drive....
Sure more power and torque for towing etc...
then add $$$$ to the price

They had to due to competition. All the other makes were bringing in diesels. There's nothing in the mid size 4wd market with a V8 in Oz.
