Brushes / commutator. Pull the brushes, should be two little plugs and then the brushes come out. Look through the holes and look for damage to the commutator.
Obviously unplug first and this isn't electrical advice....

Very nice ass covering there. I might look into contacting the manufacturer. The saw is only a couple of years old, and has been well looked after.

Usually the spark happens when the Carbon brushes are worn out.
Have you checked the carbon brushes ?
It’s a discontinued range and we don’t stock these units anymore .
We only stock minimum spare parts for the unit . However if you can provide us your details I can forward this to the supplier in overseas and they will get in touch with you directly.
Apologies for any inconvenience

No missing segments in the commutator? Do you have a multimeter? Check for shorts and if ok clean the commutator give the whole thing a blast with compressed air and reassemble. Get someone you don't like to test it. If it sparks again the wheelie bin is a good place for it.

All looked ok I think. Will check again tomorrow. I'm hoping the bin doesn't need to be involved...

looking at your pic of the commutator it looks like 2 segments are more of a copper colour is it the way the pic was taken or are they not as dull as the other segments?
That would indicate open circuited winding on those segments no current flow to dull the copper.
check with a multi meter
