  • Not happy "JAN"

    Good evening all
New to the site. I`ll cut straight to the chase. My 1KD FTV. "SHIT" it`s pants big time at 170k on the clock. On my way home from being told my services were no longer required from my 150k each way trip a day job. Number 1 decided to disintegrate as it "MELTED" No 1 piston ?????? Could any one out there please have any explanation why this would happen to a very well looked after regularly serviced vehicle. Any advice on this matter would be very much appreciated. P.S if anyone knows of a Quality second hand low "K`s" 1KD FTV for a 06 Prado I would be very interested please contact me at [email protected] and I am 40 mins south of Perth.

Sad to hear about another one. Have a look here.... http://www.pradopoint.com.au/showthr...at-a-feeling-(
Plenty more threads about it on pradopoint. Sounds like another injector/seat problem followed by blocked oil pickup, followed by melted piston. If you can't find a good s/hand then new long motor for about $8000 is the answer.
1997 petrol auto, 430 000km. Still going strong.
2004 petrol auto, 233 000km. Cracked dash and no help from Toyota!

Sorry to hear it mate, I spoke of this a while back , I've been sold on Toyo's for 17 years now and the whole point of them costing more was you could always rely on their longevity but take that away and it's just another car so what exactly is it we're paying over the top for ??? most cars now will go the distance with little or no dramas but when a prado goes it's HUGE bucks it really makes you think are they now worth it ?

2006, likely original copper washers, oil starvation, #1 piston melted is the one if that happens before bottom end.

It's just bloody annoying and disappointing,........

Sorry to hear mate. If you owned it from new I would be talking to Fair Trading as all the issues that cause the failure are well known to Toyota Australia but alas they do nothing proactive about it.
