2018 Prado

This is the first time I am owning something other than a sedan. After 2 weeks and 2,000km, I am feeling very happy about my decision to buy a Prado. I drive to relax and de-stress and the Prado fits the bill perfectly. I feel safe and empowered in the vehicle. I enjoy the view more from a high driving position. I also drive more responsibly now, knowing impact of a large vehicle on others can be colossal. Its a good feeling knowing that the vehicle can take me almost anywhere without breaking down or running out of fuel. I love the fact that I am not burning too much fuel either. The tech in the car makes it interesting.... options to play with. I take comfort in the fact that, if push came to shove, I could sell the vehicle without loosing too much money. I absolutely love the look of it too, especially those curves on the sides above the back wheels. What else? I could carry 7 people if I wanted to.... tow something if I wanted to.... put something on the roof if I wanted to.... lots of possibilities. Most importantly, each time I jump off the vehicle, I feel like going back and driving a bit more.

I’ve just done 1100kms and it’s around 9.8 doing a majority city suburban kms
Going to pay for an oil and filter when it goes in next week for it’s “check up”

I would think that new vehicles would come with the "update" have you read the threads in the engine-diesel (150 series) section called "DPF and white smoke" and "Forcing a DPF regen with OBD tools"Originally posted by sydney_sider View PostWould mind telling me a bit on the DPF update.... why, where, how etc.?
I have recently had this ECU reprogram and according to the service manager it "changes the way the burn happens when driving at high speed" I have been monitoring with torque pro to see if I can detect any difference but haven't noticed anything in the two burns since. Apart from the long term fuel use has risen from 8.5 to 8.6 L/100Km which may be coincidence?

That “slightly odd smell” - I’m hoping this is not entering the cabin whenOriginally posted by stevetandjanb View PostPicked up my new 2018 Prado a week ago - upgrade from 2014 model purely for 3 tonne towing as our caravan was close to 2.5T. So far it is so much quieter and nicer to drive. Lots of nice gadgets to play with as well and the driver information screen is very good. Paid $64500 - towbar, front sensors and mats. Downside is the DPF, but so far it has done one DPF burn whilst travelling through stop start city traffic - without having a Scangauge you would not notice apart from a slightly odd smell.
There was an article in our local paper about an Outlander having the AEB brake suddenly when there was no object in it's path. Got me thinking about the PCS in the Prado what would happen with 2.5T caravan on the back - so reading the handbook, PCS MUST be turned off while towing. Just have to remember to do that each time we tow.
stopped at traffic lights with windows closed ?

Would mind telling me a bit on the DPF update.... why, where, how etc.?Originally posted by 404pug View PostGetting around that 11.3 in outer Sydney. Well below 10s/9/s as soon as i get out of town. Mine is fairly heavily modified with AT tyres, 2nd battery, steel bull bar, 45mm lift. etc. It got about .5l/100 LESS after the DPF update was done.

What sort of fuel consumption numbers are people getting on their new Prados? I have averaged 11.3l/100km in the first 1,000km, driving mostly in Sydney metro with 1 trip to the Blue Mountains. Lowest was 7.9 and highest 14.8... considering drives longer than 30 minutes.

I am not sure if I understood your question correctly but doesn't engine rpm at certain speed vary based on incline, decline, load, drive mode, starting position etc? But generally, on a flat ground with no load, it was around 1,500 for my Kakadu in Normal drive mode at full momemtum.Originally posted by rptdprado View PostCan anyone with a new VX / Kakadu 2018 model tell me what the engine RPM is @ 100km/h ?

It’s an interesting colour. I saw a gxl in dusty bronze - when the sun hits it it’s more a golden silver than anything else and looks really nice. I’m in the same boat as as sydney_sider - white, grey, silver are absolutely everywhere. This is something different. I’d recommend you hunting down a local dealer that has one in stock.

Very nice mate, thanks. The upgraded wheels work well with the dusty bronze, as I thought they might.

From the nudge bar driving light mounts to the top of the bonnet is approx 320mm(just over 12"). There's a pair of Kings 9" LED Driving lights wrapped up under the chrissy tree for on of my sons......i was planning on sitting them on the Prado before we install them on his BT50 to see what they look like....i'll take a photo.Originally posted by Hutch View PostOut of interest could u measure how high a light would need to be to be able to see it over the bonnet, I am thinking this nudge bar is to low for lights that u could see from the drivers seat.
I am looking to do the same as hilux in my avatar.
