I have the Auto Max... purchased it at the 4x4 show earlier this year.

Used it on a the Mt Mee run Wengnuts and I did a month or so ago...

Difference is ARB = 2 year warranty and Bushranger = 5 year warranty

    plus other things of course

Bought the Auto Max today... (actually went there to buy the ARB mounted one but hey  )

    One word... awesome

15psi to 40psi in 2 min 5sec  Sure beats the $99 Bushranger I have

Oh, and people with the unit mounted under the bonnet...
He suggested today that you should extend the air intake filter to outside the engine bay. He didn't go into detail but the compressors work better with cooler air so he suggested running it back behind the firewall and into the cabin or something.
I had to take it back 2 weeks ago under warranty...

The hose connectors never really seemed quite right (hard to get them onto the pump connector) and a couple of weeks ago I was checking the missus' cars tyres and when I went to air them up the hose just wouldn't go on...
Called TJM at Woolloongabba and they sent it back to Bushranger for me... actually they told Bushranger what was wrong and Bushranger sent a completely new one out for a straight swap and now it fits nice and snugly

Used it again on Sunday just gone after a 300 meter run onto Bribie Island's beach and didn't miss a beat.

I've had the $99 Bushranger jobbie for 3 years and used it quite often before getting the Auto Max and never skipped a beat once... actually people with bigger, higher capacity compressors have borrowed the $99 jobbie in the past
    Cheers, Leon

Well I have been using a Super Cheap 72litre/min compressor for three years now and it has served me very well. Pumps up my tyres from zero to 36psi in around four minutes and has never let me down. Highly recommended

I can only find the Blue Tongue compressors listed on Opposite Lock's website. Does anyone know where else you can get them from? I'm just wanting to compare some prices.

Iron-paww, OL import the compressors directly from Thomas in the USA so I am guessing there are no other vendors for Blue Tongue compressors.

              Re: Air Compressors

Well... I got to use my new Bushranger Air Max II air compressor while visiting some beaches on the Dampier Peninsular. IMHO it worked really well. Very quick and easy to get going and seemed to inflate the tyres back to pressure pretty easily without any heating problems. The carry bag's pretty handy too. Overall I'm impressed and happy with the purchase of this item.

                Re: Air Compressors

These air compressors are handy things. The kids got a few large inflatable pool toys that needed blowing up. It would've taken us an hour to blow up using our own breath, but the Max Air II pumped them up in only a few minutes ~ no sweat at all.

I made sure that I highlighted the compressor's usefulness to the wife, just to reiterate why it was such a good buy when I got it.

I think that ARB now sell a better one as well as a really small one for air lockers - can't say I have paid much attention to their compressors now.

                    Cheers - John
John..it's still going well (TJM Ox). Not the fastest compressor but seems reliable.(7+ yrs now).. Thx. C.

I have an ARB 12v compressor fitted near to the fuel filter. It's stopped working, the fuse is good, and there is power going to the motor. The switch lights up when pressed but the compressor won't start. Any ideas?

Clean the terminals on the compressor? Mine always seem to get dirt in there. Give it a good clean and it seems to work better as it has better contact

So I have been looking for a little while for an air compressor.

I ended up picking up one of those Tigers 11 Thumper air compressors (160 ltr / min)
got it for $129 with free delivery and 13 issues of a 4wd mag + DVD's

its huge, weighs a fair bit bit god damn its quick. 33" 20 psi to 40 in under 1min.

1 problem so far was the original in-line pressure gauge, It was reading 20psi lower than it should (e.g. 38psi was reading as 18psi)
I called up and within 5 mins they had a replacement hose & gauge on their way, and 2 days later it was delivered. (No need to send anything back)

I will post back here after I have had a chance to give it a few trips.

I have the same issue with my twin piston i-Max unit (eBay cheapie) although it's not quite so bad as that. I just use an ARB gauge to check pressures when it looks like it's getting close. It's a bit of a nuisance but since the compressor cost less than $100 I can't really complain. It is huge though, takes up a bit of room when packing.

Would be interested in your feedback once you've had a chance to give the Thumper a good workout.
