  • Score marks from window tinting?

    Howdy!
So we purchased a brand new latest model 2017 Prado GXL graphite and two weeks after purchase we got the windows tinted.
I have since noticed that there are score marks cut in the paint running directly parallel and just underneath all four door windows on the outside of the car doors. These are clean cut straight score marks under the windows that are very close to the metal trim.
I assume this has been caused by some sort of blade or runner used to install the tinting.
Does anyone have any knowledge about tinting and whether the window trim is removed and how on earth these score marks could have occurred on the outside of the window when the tinting is fitted to the inside of the window?
I understand they may have measured the tint from the outside but surely that wouldn’t have run a blade across the paint to cut it to size??

from my understanding they usually place the sheet of tint on the outside of the car and cut to size (using it like a template) and then peel and stick on the inside. So if they did then they may have run the blade to far and scared your paint. It sounds like they have.

Sounds like they have run the blade long to cut the bottom of the tint when templating it. I’d be going back to the dealer with it.

As the others have said, lay it on the outside to cut it to size. I've done a bit of tinting, that's the usual way of doing it. Sounds like they weren't too careful cutting it out and damaged your paintwork. If that's the case, they'll be paying to have your doors resprayed!
