Re: New Challenge 'Meridian' off-road Camper Trailer (w/pics)

    Fair call.

Just as long as its food grade/ no taste hose.

edit... I should get some more. I used some for another purpose and now its just long enough if I park the CT as close as I can get it to the tap..
And why your at bunnings, grab both size tap connections.

    Jeff.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

Yes the Bunnings one is food grade, the same brand as Ranger sell.

Got the Neta food-grade drinking water hose yesterday - about $35. Also got hose connectors for taps, both sizes just in case. 8)

          Camper connected to the Prado:

Almost all ready now for our Easter weekend maiden voyage!

ps. As an (almost) funny aside, we had a pretty big rainstorm this afternoon quickly dumping a fair bit of water over the dry roads making them extra slippery. Just after I had parked the car/camper out front on the road, an IDIOT came around a nearby corner at speed and lost control into a fish-tail manoeuvre until his car finally slid out of control towards the curb. Luckily for us, he slid out onto the opposite side of the road just missing another parked car. Had he lost control in the opposite direction - bye bye new camper! Fortunately for the driver - no damage was caused to us otherwise he would be in hospital by now - not from his accident!

Food grade hose makes all the difference.
A few other things I have learnt with the water tank in our van.
Needed to fit a non return valve ... not fitted by Jayco
The small plastic non return valve died after 7 years.
Replaced it with a domestic brass one which works much better.
I also fitted a hose from the tank vent back to the filler pipe so that I no longer lost half the water before we reached our camp.
I now store van with water tanks full.
Bought a two cartridge water filter at the Sydney caravan show last year.
Turns out I could have bought it much cheaper at our local farm pump shop.
            Cheers

We've all been caught like that at some point I reckon. I started a thread about the exact same thing. Camping show rip offs

Everything is dearer at the big camping stores, we tend to spend the odd Sunday walking round the stores seeing what we need then my good lady picks the same stuff up elsewhere during the week

Re: New Challenge 'Meridian' off-road Camper Trailer (w/pics)

Well, we finally got to test out our new CT for real this Easter long weekend with a 2-night camp visit to Litchfield National Park. Everything worked a treat - and the wife and kids had a ball. We even saw an amazing meteorite explode through the atmosphere and literally lit up the night sky like a huge flash of lighting.

A couple of pics of our CT set-up.

All set-up - 10 minutes for main tent, 20 minutes for awning addition. About 1hr all up for everything in its place (taking our time):

Side view - the screen awning area was excellent. All meals without flies or mosquitos:

                Kitchen area:

Placed a queen size air mattress on the floor for kids. Still heaps of room to move about inside main tent area:

How was the weather? Im only asking cos we also camped this weekend and it was an absolute scorcher here in WA.
Im uploading pics as we speak...

                    Hi NTPRYCE Happy Easter
Good to hear you had a great weekend with your new camper.
That meteorite would have been something to see!
20 minutes to set the awning up is pretty good going. Our first attempt was at Burra S.A. on a windy afternoon.
Needless to say canvas did flap and patience did fray. Since then we discovered that by using the neoprene grommets
that come on alsynite or skylight sheeting screws. We can now make all the connections with the poles, spreaders and canvas without the
wind flapping it up. Simply push the grommet over the stem of the pole to secure everything in place and move on to the next one.

                        Thanks the idea.

I have a spare 'PradoPoint" sticker in the glovebox.

I'll put it on the back ofthe camper.

                        Watch out for me.

Nice meeting you in Darwin the other day Johnv.

Here's a couple more pics of our Prado and Challenge Camper Trailer after a couple of nights in Litchfield National Park. The new OME suspension helps provide a much better ride and also helps keep it all nice and level despite the extra loads on board - so no more rear sag:

The trailer, once again, performed excellently. We didn't arrive until just on dusk, so set-up was mostly without any ambient light. Still only took 1hr for everything to be put in its place (full set-up with enclosed awning). So we're pretty happy with that and now know we can set up in the dark if we have to.

While camping we even had a couple of other people with more expensive hard floored CT set-ups come over to (look and) ask about ours. They seemed impressed with the ease of set-up and abundance of space. We were too!

Our recent campsite at Willow Springs, Flinders Ranges. This time we used the awning, but without the mesh sides as there were no flies or mosquitoes (in winter).

Had to use the guy ropes, however, due to strong winds at the time!
