It is on the web site for adventure off road campers. It looks a simple design to play with.

How the hell do you manoeuvre and turn without the car fouling the bar? I'm sure there is a logical answer, but I can't see it.
Andy I would say the bar directly below and to the rear of the cars rear bumper is fixed to the towbar. The shadecloth type material is connected by semi stretched bungee cord type straps and when you turn left the left straps retract and the right ones stretch more and vice versa.

Great to see another Offroad Dove attached to a Prado.

I like the double pole carriers too. What size are they? I am in the middle of putting a large 150mm one on and might just do the smaller one as well for the sullage pipes etc.

What is the black box beside the outside light?

        embi,

The black box is an external 12v outlet. I put a double in the same spot (but primed and sprayed it white). I also have one near the winder at the front, so I can have a light over the BBQ at night.

100mm stormwater pipe fits between the frame and floor on most jayco's, the 150mm is what you mainly see though. I have one front and back. Make sure if you put one on the rear bumper, fix it on top, not underneath. If a bracket lets go and drops 10 galvanized poles on the expressway.... you won't be popular. I have witnessed the aftermath of this, not pretty.

          Embi/Signature,
The forward one is 150mo and other is 100ml, which fits nicely under the front boot. I put on 2 as all the poles would not fit in the one carrier along with poles for my shower tent. There was a little3 bit a miss calculation in that I actually wanted them a little closer together.

One thing to keep inmind though is with 2 pole carriers I had to modify the winder handle as it foulded on the 150ml tube. I found a peice of RHS in the old man's garage and we ehere able to lengthen the winder. I post some lic's if you need them.

Got a question for guys too. What type of battery do use for bush camps? I understand that they have to be sealed, but Jayco recommend the Gel Type which start at around $400 mark. I think I will probably go for a min 100amph battery as I dont really want to have to fit a dual battery system just yet the Prado is up for re-newual in 12months.....

Re: New Jayco Outback About To Be Ordered

I don't know if you caught my post elsewhere on this forum where I spoke about issues with my Jayco Outback Swan but here's a couple of things to look out for:
            1. Stones smashed holes through the flimsy water tank guard and also broke the 50 cent plastic irrigation elbow joint where the water pipe comes out of the tank and joins to the main plastic pipe. I lost all the water on first trip off-road.
            2. Sticks and brush tore off the electric brake lines where they connect with the back of the brake housing.
            3. Corrugations caused the chimney extension on the fridge near the vent to fall off allowing fumes to enter the van.
            4. Corrugations pulled the door retaining clips off the ceiling.
            5. The front awning will balloon with the middle section acting like a wind brake when you drive - I took mine off and kept it inside the van until parked.
            6. Corrugations smashed all the pop rivets on the side awning where the aluminium strip runs along the outer edge of the awning.
            7. Dust gets in everywhere, especially via the fridge vents and througout the drawers, under the sink, etc and through the bottom door vent.
            8. Water gets in at the corners of the front where the roof meets the body when you drive in the rain. (I've heard they use better seals now).
            9. Numerous electrical gremlins with the on-board inverter resulting in the main fuse for the fridge blowing everytime the van was switched from 240 to 12 volts.

Other than that ours performed extremely well including several trips along the Gibb River road and Great Central Road, a couple of trips through the Pilbara and a 16,000 trip through the centre and up to Cape York in 2006.

Not bad for a van that Jayco told me "was not supposed to be taken off - road".

Looks good Dazz sits really nice behind the prado did you guys end up going away in it. We are currently starting to go thru the proccess of selling ours to upgrade to a van for the next installment of our trip. You will love it they are a great little van just if you go travel down dirt tracks don't be affraid of of using plenty of duct tape (even then the dust still gets in) and also a crap load of selastic underneath including wheel arches. Also make a mental note of closing the roof hatch it's a pain in the ass when the roof is down. I hope you enjoy it.

We camped beside a family in Marla who had just finished the Oodnadatta Track with their brand new Swan Outback. I've highlighted the issues they also had.

BTW it's too clean, go out and get it dirty

Can anyone get a close up pic of it. I'd be interested in seeing what it looks like... might put one on.

I'm going to add a 2nd pole carrier too...great idea.

I primed it and sprayed it white though. I have a single version on the front as well.

Re: New Jayco Outback About To Be Ordered

Just be careful not to over load a double gig adaptor. They are good for approx 16-17 amps and the fuse in the Jayco box is only 10amp. You'll be forever changing fuses.

That said, my understanding, and its just what I have been told is could put in a higher rated fuse as the cabling in the Jayco's is fairly hefty and capbale of safely handing more than 10amps.

Ahhh, The benefits of having an older model. I have run all new cabling back to a new 6 fuse block, located in the battery compartment.
Separate fuses for the 12 volt outlets (Double on the side, and an additional single external and one internal)
One for the ipod, CD player, One for the bedside reading lights & boot lighting, one for the water pump.
I have also changed all running lighting, including brakes, tail, indicators etc to LED's

Just returned from 3 weeks and 6000km in the Flinders and on the Oodnadatta and Streczleki tracks towing a 2005 model Swan and I agree with Bushbasher - the "tinfoil" tank guard looks like a train wreck, the plastic elbow on the water tank was gone after the first 50km on the Yunta to Arkaroola track, the 12v system had its gremlins, the brake wiring had an intermitent fault after about the 3 day on the dirt and it sucks up more dust better than a hoover. Fortunately I gave it back to the bloke that I hired it from at the end of the trip - I hired with the expectaion that I might buy one if it performed well - needless to say no Jayco's for this little black duck - obviously Jayco's definition of "Outback" is somewhat optimistic to say the least. Hope yours fares better - Gaffer tape will be your new best friend
