      ....... and a bit more clarification about the new direction;

      Hi All,

      We are pleased to advise that following a meeting today, the Minister has announced this evening that the introduction of the proposed new regulations will be delayed to allow more time to consult with industry and community groups. A working party is now being established which will consist of Four Wheel Drive NSW & ACT, the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association
      (AAAA) and other agencies and experts as needed.

      Therefore, until the working party makes its recommendations, it is business as usual. This means:
      - If your vehicle is registered and legally modified, you are legal and should continue all your normal activities.
      - If you are in the process of modifying your vehicle, you should continue and conform to existing regulations.
      - If you encounter indecision about registering your vehicle, let us know.

      The working party will determine in cooperation with the RTA, the basis and rules for future modifications and ensure that the rules are properly communicated and in place to ensure everyone fully understands what is required. We will be aiming to ensure that the basis of those rules is soundly based and represents good practice in the 4WD community and is not penalising responsible 4WD owners.

        that is awesome news.
        they needed to from the start.
        it was always going to be hard for them to enforce it, with only a narrow window of change (time).
        this will relieve alot of businesses, and a lot of owners, especially those currently building vechicles to current (or pre May laws) standards.

            It's good to see there's some common sense in Australia after all. The delay to get better, more informed information was a complete no brainer in my opinion. However, getting public feedback and actually taking reasonable note of it seems difficult in Oz of late. Seems we get lumped with things and then have to scream about it for months before someone says.... Hmmmm maybe we shouldn't have done that... Outcomes based education for one..... I for one am sick of being over regulated. I have just come back from Iceland where they are of the opinion that you take responsibility for your own foolishness. No roping off dangerous areas, and no restrictions to 4WD mods (it appears) :shock: . What an original idea.... YOU are resposible for YOUR actions! If you are stupid and you hurt someone else, then you pay their damages, hospital bills etc. If you fall off a cliff at a waterfall because you walked too close to the edge then it's your fault for being so stupid. I can tell you, there are areas you could go in Iceland that you wouldn't get anywhere near if thet were in Australia, because of our regulated existence.

            I was talking to a guy from Texas, in London of all places. He was telling me that for your first drink driving offence you lose your license for 5 years!. On your second drink driving offence you lose your license for life!. There is very little drink driving in Texas!. See where things can go if we continue down this path! Also said that underage drinkers are taken to the local lockup, their parents called and issued with a $1000.00 fine before their kids are released. Interesting don't you think??

            So I think that we do need to fight for our freedoms. Otherwise we will all too quickly lose them to politicians who have no real idea on how to tackle a problem other than to severely restrict us all to the point where having fun just isn't possible. If that happens I'm applying for an Icelandic passport.

            A pretty tame Icelandic 4WD setup. This is common over there!

                  LABOR REFUSES TO WITHDRAW HARSH NEW VEHICLE MODIFICATION LAWS

                  NSW Shadow Minister for Roads Andrew Stoner today slammed the Rees Labor Government for refusing to rule out imposing harsh and irrational vehicle height regulations on law abiding Four Wheel Drivers, caravan towers and car enthusiasts.

                  In Parliament today the Liberals & Nationals moved a motion to rule out the new suspension laws.

                  The laws, which prohibit car owners from raising or lowering their suspension by no more than five centimeters and see responsible motorists labeled as ‘hoons’, have been strongly opposed by the 4WD community and automotive industry.

                  Despite protests from the community, the Rees Labor Government today refused to withdraw the laws.

                  During debate in State Parliament today, Mr Stoner said Labor’s refusal to rule out the harsh new laws shows they were out of touch with the community.

                  “These laws were ill-conceived and Labor must ditch them immediately,” Mr Stoner said.

                  "The vast majority of people who modify their vehicle’s suspensions are responsible drivers.

                  “Most of these people are Four Wheel Drivers, caravan towers and car enthusiasts, not 'young hoons', and they don't deserve to be punished.

                  “While Labor’s policy may make for good headlines, sadly it ends up inconveniencing thousands of responsible drivers.”

                  “This whole affair shows how the out of touch the Rees Labor Government has become. They continue to make policy up on the run.”

                  Mr Stoner said the Four Wheel Drive and car enthusiast community had spoken loudly and clearly on this issue.

                  “People do not want to see their families and friends labeled as ‘hoons’ by an out of touch Labor Government focused on chasing headlines rather than fixing our State,” Mr Stoner said.

                  “In the past few weeks, over 3,500 people from across the State have logged onto www.nothoons.com.au and signed the Liberal & Nationals online petition to protest the new laws.

                  ‘The challenge for Labor and the new Roads Minister is to listen to the community, and call these rules off.”

                    There is a simple solution to this "IF" it goes through and your vehcile is raised and not certified --- Just work out how much air to take out of your tyres to bring it to standard height and set tyre deflators accordenly If you so happen to get your vehcle checked over by the authorities just distract them with the attractive blonde sitting in the passangers seat and wack on the deflators whilst they're distracted .. . Glad it is not taking affect in WA as I have no chance of persuading an attractive blonde to drive with me every where I go .

                          I received this email from Andrew Stoner just a couple of days ago. Due to the fact I signed an online petition.

                          Yesterday I again raised the issue of the proposed changes to vehicle height restrictions in NSW Parliament. You can watch a video of my speech here.
                          It has been over 4 months since the ill-conceived laws were first announced and then put on hold. Since then we have had yet another Labor MP take over the Roads portfolio - that is 7 Ministers since 2002!
                          It is now also over 2 months since the NSW Parliament was told that the current Minister for Transport was "considering" the matter. This is not good enough.
                          In my speech yesterday I referred to an email I received indicating that in some areas Police may already be telling motorists that their vehicle heights are now illegal.
                          Over 3,800 people have signed up to our online petition calling on the NSW Labor to rule out their ill-conceived changes once and for all.
                          Please continue to encourage your fellow 4WD and car enthusiasts to logon and sign our petition.

                          Thank you and have a safe and enjoyable time on the State's roads this coming festive season.
