Re: Ways to persuade your other half for a new Prado accessory

Worked on a new strategy last night, dropped into the local ARB distributor, distracted the Missus and pointed out their display of fridges and while she was working out how all the different models of slides worked I ordered a deluxe winch bar. Expecting a call today to let me know the availability of stock and a fitting date.

I had the exact same issue Hutch.

Unfortunately I don't have any photos (I am on the work computer) but basically with my garage door there are two bump stops, one on each side, which I was able to move up by raising the side guides (which keep the door on track). All I had to do was unscrew the guides, moved them up 70mm, drilled new holes and screwed them back in.

Unfortunately for me it took me a while to work this out (I think I was too close to the problem for a while) and I had standard height suspension installed. Since I worked it out now, I am getting raised springs chucked in next Wednesday. Lucky for me, the shocks (Bilstein) I have allow for raised suspension.

I went ahead with a lift earlier in the year. I somehow stuffed up the measuring of the rollerdoor clearance and realised I may have an issue after the car went in. When I got her home I found that it was close but I could still get roof bars on but nothing else. I've looked at raising the roolerdoor but there is door stop that is welded to the frame. If this was only bolted then I know I could raise the door by a couple of inches which would be awesome.

The other week i had a shovel ontop with the Rhino Shoverl Holders. Drove straight in. There was a hell of a bang but no damage. It's the first time I've forgotten about stuff on top. I also hope it's the last.

This is getting a little off topic, but, I managed to get another 30 odd mm clearance out of my roller door, to fit the lifted Prado in better, this way.

If you look at the tracks the door runs in on either side of your garage opening, you may see a welded piece of flat steel that acts as a stop at the top of the track. At the bottom of the door itself there will be other stops that stick out and hit the ones on the track when the door is raised. ( mine were plastic ). I just cut down the ones on the door with a hacksaw. The door now stops on the bottom rail of the door itself.

Yuor design might be different ( mine is quite old ) but have a look anyway.
          Cheers, Wayne

Hell, I just built a new house

It was easier doing that than trying to get Spot Lights on the Prado.

But I did make sure the garage door was high enough to fit the Prado with lift, roof racks and cage 8)

I have worked out that i can get the hole door up 30mm and another 60mm out of the track guides so looking at around another 90mm hopefully which will be heaps. The garage man is booked in for next saturday and if goes well monday i will book the prado in.

Talking to other half yesterday and she told me there was a sale at local 4wd shop   , told her I was going to spend some of her money (we go 50/50 on all this sort of stuff) she wanted to know what I was going to buy and that the only thing she would pay up for would be a suspension lift Result car booked in next wednesday for OME suspension lift / poly air bag install and while we where at the shop convinced her that our son was such a grot that we have ordered MSA seatcovers as well for both front and rear seats (they have to match of course)

Now that just leaves winch snorkel etc etc etc

Kids are the masters of nagging, so I am now fearful her defenses may be too weak (caused by me), so when it comes to kids, she will have no defense left and before I know it, the kids will have everything, leaving me with no money for more Prado gear...

My only way around this is to get everything I could possibly need for the Prado now, before any buns are in the oven...
I remember as a child the phrase "Ask your Father". If it came to that, it meant basically "There is no chance in hell".

You need to be like a brick wall - for the sake of any future Prado gear (although you seem to have already done the main ones).
