I'm struggling to convince myself that it offers value for money. No offence to anyone, but I am thinking of making something similar to the 'Rock Tamers' instead.

We used to have a Jayco Outback Swan. The underbody suffered from many a stone hit. In particular the "stone guard" around the water tank is pathetically thin and we found rocks had penetrated right through the thin sheet of tin. Also, rocks continuously broke the plastic elbow joint on the water hose connector between the fill pipe and the tank - result is loss of all water. The gas line at the rear under the floor directly under the stove took a couple of hits as well as the electric brake wires going into the brake drums. They are all quite vulnerable and despite ours being a 2003 model I see that Jayco have done bugger-all to rectify these on the newer models despite me telling the factory several times of these problems.

The factory answer was "They are not really supposed to go OFF ROAD"!

I'm looking at the rock tamers device to see if it fits my current need with my present trailer. So far, most of the damage is the gradual stripping away of the paint and galvanized finish on the drawbar and all leading edges of my trailer. Not to mention the few stones that have come bouncing back onto the tailgate of the car. One even hit the rear view mirror.

        Re: Tired of getting stoned

I have a set of Rock Tamers and have found that they reduce the number of stones hitting the camper by about 80%. I have no personal experience with the stone stompers but people who have used them caim they stop almost 100% of stones hitting the camper. The thing that turned me off the stone stomper was having it in the way when acessessing the back of the vehicle.

Thanks for the heads up Bushbasher, the Swan wasn't my chose.......... I would have went one of the Lifestyle campers. I seen i guy that covered all the hoses, wires and tanks with rubber mat under a swan for stone protection. Those stone stompers are suppose to stop nearly 100% of rocks hitting front of camper and drawbar and anything bolted to the drawbar. Easy enough to unhook two or three cords to gain access into rear door of car while still hooked up.

Yeah I get that too. What you need to do is open an account with Photobucket or similar and upload onto there and then just copy link into the text area here (when typing a post) and it will post the picture within the text area. Just remember to reduce the size of photo to something like 640x450 or whatever is closest.

              Cheers

Thanks tinkera, appreciate the update. I am very close to ordering a stone stomper, but would love to see yours as a possible option.
