Trip Service - First Tour

Hi Team

Wife and I are doing our first 3 week tour through our great state towing the gold stream. The beast has just had it 50,000 service but wondering if i need to get it "trip serviced again before we go? If so,
1) will toyota do a detailed trip inspection, if not who then in Brissie?
2) Would the 50,000 service cover it off?
3) What spares do you recomment (apart from tyres) specifically for the prado.

Hi Wilko,
have done your trip plus heaps more (100,000k's with van) and nothing needed apart from the normal services. I carried spare belts and have never needed them. Just change all belts plus timing belt and tensioner at 150,000 and about to take off again.
After paying heaps for Toyota servicing over the first 3 years, have done my own apart from diffs/gearbox and transfer case oil changes and saved heaps.
Carry a couple of spare oil filters and just get the oil changed as required.

I carry a spare air filter. No weight and they can get clogged up if you plan on doing a lot of dusty roads.

Hi Wilko

If you get your car serviced at a Toyota dealer there are a couple of advantages if you strike a relationship with the Service Manager. Explain to him what you are doing and your questions and I'm sure he will allocate a mechanic that has 4WDriving knowledge, also I have found that if the dealer is a good one you may be able to get the spares you want to take, pay for them and get a credit back after the trip if you don't use them and keep them in resalable condition, I have done this in the past.

Mate i am about to head off for 3 months and am taking the following in regards to spares

Spare top and bottom radiator hoses
Spare belts
Fuses
Electrical wire
Spare fuel filter
Spare Oil filter
Little bit of oil 5l or so
WD 40
Duct tape (will fix anything)

my 150k service is due before i go but i will get him to do the 160k as well so i am leaving on fresh diff oils etc

I did 7000k last year for the GTG and only followed normal servicing requirements, the above spares and associated tools old prado is pretty reliable (touch wood)
