NBN Problems

Hi All, got hooked up a month ago and had a rocky start but most problems now fixed with just one main issue my landline has a continuous dial tone and when you press any key you just get the dial tone I'm told I need a phone thats compatible with voip but thats all but impossible no one seems to sell them anyone know where to go ? googled it to death tried all the stores H/N Good Guys Jaycar Office works all drew blanks,

On the back of your modem there should be a dedicated phone plug. Any phone will do!

Yes as 120D4D has said if you are plugging your old phone directly into one of the dedicated telephone sockets on the back of the modem it should work as normal and you do not need a voip phone. If that is the case and you are still getting the dial tone I would try calling your service provider and getting them to run some tests for you from their end. It could also be a faulty modem

Hi Guys yes thats exactly what I thought but tried 3 different phones now and all just give a continuous dial tone the ISP says they've pinged the line multiple times and all is perfect BTW I'm getting calls in and when I "can" get out calls are all good but 2 out of every 3 calls dont register I was on voip 10 years before NBN and never had a problem but I dont know how to sort this one ?

Anyway to check in your modem if the SIP registration is dropping out?

Sometimes there's a setting in the modern for dial tone Style. From memory there's uk and usa Style with Australian being a variant of the uk one but not all modems support it properly

Hi Piggy it's a netcomm (newest model) it's weird the ISP emailed and said they'd do another tweak and it has helped but still not completely cured it , as for NBN compatibility H/N JB HI FI Goodguys all said I need an NBN compatible phone but none of them sell one ,but even My ISP says I dont need it and the fact that it does work proves that ? so I guess it has to be a network problem..............
