I tried but failed to send you a PM says something like "you have exceeded your quota" so I may as well ask in public what the PM said:
Are you saying that you can add a current map to the factory system as I thought that I had tried every single possibility with the exception of dismantling the unit to hunt for the hidden .exe

JohnLynn requested that I post the response from Toyota Customer Experience Centre after I (politely) complained about the 2015 dated satnav on my new GXL. I asked if it was their policy for the dealer to give me a free update to a later version. They say that I have picked up the software version rather than the map version. I'll have to have another look at the car in the next day or two and see if there is any way to pick up the map version.
        Here is their response:

        Dear xxxxxxxxx

Thank you for your correspondence addressed to Toyota Motor Corporation Australia (TMCA), regarding an upgrade to your vehicle’s Satellite Navigation System.

The IGo My Way version 9.12.14.545514 dated Jun 2nd 2015 is not the map version/date for the Satellite Navigation in your Prado but the software version used by IGo My Way. We can assure you, at the time of manufacturing your fitted was fitted with the most up to date map version available.

TMCA work with our supplier to collate and distribute new map updates every 12-24 months. These map updates are available for purchase at any Toyota Dealership Parts Department.

Toyota’s Satellite Navigation System are the product of high investment in the development of this technology.

The cost to upgrade your vehicle’s Satellite Navigation System (today) encompasses the manufacturer’s initial as well as, ongoing development costs. To mitigate this Toyota minimises our margin, to cover our transport and handling costs only.

TMCA again thanks you for your correspondence and the opportunity to address this matter.

        Regards,
        xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sounds like one big load of garbage if you ask me. Would searching for a new housing estate that is let’s say 1year old prove that if the maps don’t show the new roads, the update/version is older than Toyota are claiming??

Thank you for writing to TMCA as I am convinced that this is the only way the situation may improve. I think they are correct about the software version, perhaps you did not look deep enough in the menus to find the actual map version. Hergy suggested in post 12 where to find it.
As for the rest of TMCA's response you have to laugh or you would cry. Now I could be wrong as I do not have any knowledge of the latest navigation system. My original was 2015 and I did eventually get a 2015 map given to me, I was content with this as all I had ever asked for was a 2015 map in a 2015 vehicle. Problem was this was about two years later!
Anyway I wonder if they were laughing as they wrote that "the navigation system is the product of high investment in the development of this technology" I say this because my factory system used win CE and the most recent version was launched in 2006. I dread to think what they would charge if they didn't "minimise their margin to cover only transport and handling costs" when they are asking $500 for an SD card ffs !!!!

Deleted double post - Pradopoint keeps locking up for me today.

This is a bit weird but my last posting (#21) shows different messages depending on whether I'm logged in or not. The logged in version is the version that I want to "stick". Something to do with Pradopoint locking up and doing double postings for me earlier today.

                Edit for clarification:

If I'm logged in, #21 says:
"Hergy advised in post #12 above how to see the latest map version rather than the latest software version.
My maps are the same as shown in Hergy's photo, so, as he says "not as bad as it looks" to have 2016 Q4 maps rather than mid-2015."
If I'm not logged in, #21 says:
"Deleted double post - Pradopoint keeps locking up for me today."

Bought Prado last week and was told by dealer that Toyota now has a policy for free map updates during warranty period.

Wow has all my moaning and groaning and complaining to consumer protection and a Senator actually achieved something? If this is the case best we all make use of it before our warranty runs out.

Did they give this to you in writing?

Dealer at Cranbourne Toyota told me the news. It is not mentioned anywhere in a contract though. Need to trust people at last.

Picked up a new car today but dealer did not know anything about map update policy. Maps version installed in my car is AU 2016.Q4. I will be calling Toyota Spare Department tomorrow to check what is the latest version of the map available.

That’s why I asked if you got it in writing. Be the first I’ve ever heard of a dealer doing free updates.

I believe that E174 are the last few digits on the SD card, which is the part number.
Ive been told that this is the latest version available as of today’s date
