  • Replacement key

just bought 2012 GX Prado which only came with one key. It's the push button keyless start key and Toyota want about $600 for a new one programmed. Has anyone bought one before somewhere else? a cheaper option (eBay etc). The guy at Toyota said sometimes those keys won't work and you won't get the $146 program fee back.

You can get cheaper ones and program them yourself with techstream if you're savvy with computers. Otherwise you're going to pay someone for the pleasure of doing both of those things, that price is standard- It's a bloody ripoff but it is what it is.

Exactly as andrew3134 said. I had the same issue (2012 Prado, 1 key supplied). You will need to watch some videos on Youtube about using Techstream, but once you work it out, it's easy to program the Key. I never bothered having the key cut, just programmed the 2nd remote. Easy to program a third if you need it!
Prado_The_2nd now on my Third Prado (and 2 Landcruisers before that!)

ARB Deluxe Bar, Towbar, Driving Lights and bits and pieces of other tech.
