  • Transfer case oil leak

    Greetings from NZ.
I bought a new Prado D4D in 2014 and after 60,000 kms , I have a transfer case oil leak. The local Toyota dealer has replaced the seal saying there was very little lost oil so no probably no damage to internals. Can anybody throw some light on what could cause the seal to fail and should I be insisting on a full inspection of the case under warranty? I have done occasional sand driving and some fairly easy 4x4 stuff and only tow a lightish boat and camping gear.
Got a 5 hour tow of a 2.3ton boat and my gear at Xmas though and concerned!
    Thanks for any advice.

Transfer case front output seal failure is common when driven on sand. It gets in under the wiper and wears the seal till it leaks.

Thanks Adrian and Tony for your replies. Sounds like a good hose down in that area is needed after sand driving. Hopefully got it in time. Bet I will be hearing things from now on though!
        cheers.
