    Re: ShuRoo - experiences anyone?

    Guy's & Gal's,
Once I was a Parks ranger and we had a good look at these items and how Roo's operate with and without them,
What we found was that the item in question (when we were looking at them) had never been tested on Roo's of any sort and were in fact made for deer.
    .
The shoo roo and similar have a wistle which only a few species of roo's can hear.
It was found sheep and cow's heard the noise but only a small group of Wallabies could actualy hear it.
    .
There are 48 species of roos/wallabies in Australia so you can already see that its not very good.
    .
On top of this Roo's vision is similar to a motor bike riders. they look all over the place and see things all in a wide plain and react the same way.
    .
It was also found that a vehicle travelling at 100km/h were outside the roo's ability to react.

This means you can on most times get past them before they go..... der.... jump into the light.

in saying that we all know what its like to hit a roo at 100km/h. this is more to do with our reaction time...

What am i saying in the end........ dont waste your money, drive at 100km/h...... if all go's wrong line em up on the whinch..close your eyes...... and i never told your this and em not liable in any way.

I read an accident report once from a Park Ranger who hit a roo. In the report (like most of these types of reports) it asks "What do you recommend can be done to avoid the accident in the future?" The ranger recommended "All roos to wear high visability vests."

            Re: ShuRoo - experiences anyone?

You don't have to be a zoologist to know that roo's are dumb animals.

Unfortunately when they are on a road at night the shadows produced by your headlights scare the poor buggers and they think something is coming at them from whatever direction they see the shadows moving (ie. any random direction).

Kangaroos are most active at dusk and dawn, so the easiest solution is to avoid driving at these time. In many parts of Australia (where there are no fences on the highway), the real danger is with cattle, buffalo, horses and camels. These animals will not only write off your car, but could kill you and everyone in the car. I have just missed black cattle on the Sturt highway at night doing 120km/hour.

If you must drive in the bush outside of daylight, get a big bullbar and keep your eyes open!!!!

If you do hit an animal inthe bush , for the animals sake please get out and check if you injured it. If so please put them out of their misery.
