  • eBay temperature gauge - worth it?

Hi guys, I quite like the look of this gauge and want something a bit better than the dash gauge to monitor engine and tranny temperatures. This one looks quite nice

However it seems this one uses little tags you're meant to bit into the area to be monitored. Just can't think myself how this would be easy to do for both an engine and a transmission.

Is there something I'm missing or am I right?

    Thanks

If you have an automatic you will want to see the ATF temp and Torque Converter temp.
I'm not sure that bolting their sensors to any available external bolt hole will give good readings.

For that price, pay a little more and buy a Scangauge II or get Torque Pro and get the temperature readings directly from Toyota's ECU via the OBD II connector under the dash.

Yes it's an auto. Mine is a 2000 95 series so no OBD II otherwise that would be a great solution. But like you I could think of no bolt hole that you could attach these sensors to to get any kind of accurate reading.

From memory the Wholesale Auto kit has a “tee” fitting that screws in place of the standard elbow for the trans fluid line to the cooler that takes the temp sender.
