2010 Prado V6 petrol engine whine

Hi fellow Prado owners I need your help.

I gave my Prado a quick pressure wash under the bonnet a quick tidy up and shortly after it started making a whining noise from around 1500RPM - 2000RPM which you can clearly hear when driving or if you park and rev the engine it drives fine no issues there but sounds like it has a supercharger fitted.

I had it serviced at Toyota and they changed the serperntine belt which made no difference. Then Toyota diagnosed it as a faulty power steering pump and charged me $1600.00 for a new pump to be fitted but when I picked it up no change to the sound.

If anyone has experienced this type of problem I would really appreciate your help as all Toyota want to do is keep replacing parts which is not fixing the problem.

Check for debris that made its way into the alternator when you pressure washed. If you have access to a compressor give it a thorough blow down. When was the timing belt changed? Viscous clutch in your fan perhaps?
