  • Toyota dealers and spare parts stock

Couldn't believe it when my local dealer didn't have a thermostat housing gasket in stock for a warranty job on my 2017 GLX
Times must be tough. But I am the one doing another 70kms return trip.
    Very poor inventory control!!

That’s pretty poor, surely you would think they would have a gasket kit they could rob one out of.

They stock what sells like any other business , if there is no call for a particular parts in the last 6 months it probably wont be stocked , surprised you would need one for that year already

Well you might think that would be the logical thing to do but I can remember standing in a queue at a parts counter and hearing a customer being told "we haven't got that mate, it is a popular part"
I think this example is one of the many things that have made me become a cynical and grumpy old man.

I always ring first to check availability.
Toyota has so many vehicles in its stable, spare parts has become a nightmare.
Anything slightly out of the ordinary has to come from O/S.

Dealers are always trying to find ways to cut costs, so reducing inventory sitting on the shelf is another way they can.
Added inconvenience to the customer isn’t really on their radar.

And not only Toyota dealers, my work car is a VW Amarok, it had a coolant loss issue, as there was no visible leak the fault most likely was the known EGR cooler failure yet despite advising the dealership that two qualified technicians could not see any coolant trace or pooling they had it for a day to diagnose then a 10 day wait for parts to correct it.

As has been posted businesses are minimizing parts inventory as it makes business sense, hopefully most will ensure parts on hand for known work load at least.

On another note I loved that V6 diesel, it would just transform the Prado
