  • i have installed a 24V runva winch on my prado

    hi all
I bought a runva 11xp winch online and later only realised that it is a 24V. I installed it on my car and works when the engine is on. just wondering is it going to harm my car. I only have a single battery on it. seeking more info regarding this.
    Thanks
    Tom

I would be removing it and putting in a 12 volt unit. You will burn out either winch or batteries in the long run.. And likely have it let you down when you need it most.

Place your bets which will burn out first, the motor or the contactors... When you drop the available voltage to a DC motor, the current rises dramatically

the last time i saw a 24 volt motor used on a 12 volt system was a trailer wired for 24 vt and the truck was 12 vt admittedly it had 4 large batteries. the motor was for a hydraulic winch on a drop deck not being used at time.
drove approx 300 km before i noticed smoke from trailer, pulled over , disconnected trailer and watched it burn to the ground. subsequent investigation prove the 2 incompatible.
i know what i wont be doing again
can any body tell me how to post my own problem please?.
