Scangauge III

Scangauge III has surfaced. Its vastly superior to Scangauge II.

Full colour display, up to 9 configurable gauges per page, 3 pages available. Still XGauge programmable.
Replaced my 2 x model IIs with a model III, and reloaded a range of Prado specific XGauges.

While the text headings are better than the cryptic names you see in the Mk II, there are advantages in the small size of the Mk II. While one or two more readings would be useful, I'm not sure I need nine, and I wonder whether having that many would be too much of a distraction.

How much configuration in the display is possible? It that a fixed 3x3 matrix of numbers all the same size?

I assume there aren't any more XGauge codes?

Cost?

Looks interesting. However, ScanGauge 2's virtue is its svelte design that fits nicely atop the steering column. And the only gauges I really need are the Auto Transmission Temperature and Torque Converter Lockup indicator, to monitor the crappy auto performance of my MY2018 Prado at highway speeds.

Answering my own questions, price is $415, and the display is quite configurable. Were it not for the larger size I could be interested. The automatic X-Gauge configuration sounds particularly interesting.

Scangauge II is small and mounts in an unobtrusive spot above the steering column. Good deal for those who need a couple of gauges, especially OEM specific.
Scangauge III comes with 'current gear' and 'torque converter lockup state' XGauges.

I use more data so I got 2 model IIs and velcro'd them to my dash-mat. Still not enough gauges tho' for those very long remote treks.
Scangauge III is vastly superior, more obtrusive tho' and the windscreen mounting is marginally passable.
Not sure how it'll hold up on a heavily corrugated highway
There's no turning back tho', 2 x Scanguage IIs to be re-homed soon.
I'll fabricate a bracket and velcro the new model to my dash-mat at some time.

I have multiple readings on my display, though I use the Torque Pro app. I don't find them distracting. Maybe it is someone's own mental approach.

For myself, I wonder why some people are preferring the Scangauge systems. For the bits and pieces using the Torque Pro app, the overall cost was less than Scangauge. For me, the most expensive component was a high quality OBD2 dongle/scanner. So far no interference of the app with the workings of the vehicle. Now use a 7 inch android tablet for the displays as my old android phone, used previously, eventually failed.

I have attached a pic of the tablet with the displayed information. The tablet can go in a "landscape" orientation if someone wanted to view that way.

Although I use the Torque Pro app, my display shows numerous readings. They don't bother me at all. Perhaps it's a person's own thinking strategy. I've included a picture of the tablet showing the information being presented.

In what ways is the display customizable? Is it a constant, uniformly sized 3x3 matrix of digits?

color by number
